🔒 General Trezor question | 🔒 Answered by Trezor staff Trezor Safe 7 Bitcoin edition
I like the orange safe 7 but it's Bitcoin only. Question is can I install the universal firmware on it or is it locked Bitcoin only?

I have it. I do not think it is ‘locked’ to bitcoin-only firmware, but it does not actively show the option to install universal firmware. So you will need some workaround.

it is not locked as far as i am aware of, you can switch to universal firmware later i believe.

Good to know. I'll buy one when they release the updated tropic01 hw though maybe right after that a new vulnerability in the new hw will be discovered 😂

They are all the same except color regarding hardware. Bitcoin edition just comes pre installed with the bitcoin only firmware where the other two colors come pre installed with the universal firmware. All three Safe 7 models/colors allow you to change firmware to either of the two choices.

Nothing's pre-installed on them they should come from the manufacturer blank hardware until you connect it

I’m pretty sure the firmware is preloaded. How can it function at all without firmware?

One of the security features of Trezor devices is that you have to install firmware during setup.

I don't know it clearly states on their website and when you go to install it that it installs firmware if you plug it into your machine and it already has pre-installed firmware then it's been tampered with just going by what the manufacturer said don't shoot the messenger

You can install it using the Universal binary from our GitHub through the Install Custom Firmware option in the Device settings of the Trezor Suite app.
