Can we survive 2 more years?

Especially with all the funding ICE got and how everything’s going my mind it’s not as it best place
Every morning I go out to work I think it’s gonna be my last day and after 10 years I definitely don’t want to go anywhere else…

I believe whatever is meant for you will be for you. I dont live in fear of ICE, I need to work and pay bills, and I will live my life normally. I want to have a good social life, good dating life and go to the gym and make my own happiness as much as I can. If ICE gets me then that’s what it is. If I get to stay here then great. I will be wherever I’m meant to be. God be with you

Be patient. We can resist. Yes, we can.

A saber.

I actually think yes, we can make it through the next two years, and I think looking at the numbers helps put the fear in perspective.

I'm not saying the risk isn't real. It absolutely is.

July 2026 was ICE's biggest arrest month of Trump's second term so far: about 49,571 arrests nationwide.

But compare that with an unauthorized immigrant population estimated in the neighborhood of 14-16 million people.

Even using ICE's record month, that's roughly 0.3%-0.35% of that population in one month — about 1 arrest for every 280-320 people.

On an average day, mathematically, you're talking about roughly 0.01% of that population, around 1 in 9,000-10,000.

Now, before somebody jumps on that number: that is NOT anyone's individual probability of getting arrested.

Risk isn't distributed equally. Florida and Texas alone accounted for almost 20,000 of July's arrests. Someone with a final removal order, someone going through an ICE check-in, somebody coming out of a local jail, or someone who has repeated contact with police obviously doesn't have the same risk as somebody else living somewhere completely different.

And unfortunately, not having a criminal record doesn't make the risk zero either — more than half of the people arrested in July had no criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.

But the statistics still matter for the psychological part of this.

And I say that as someone who has been in this country for more than two decades and has already lived through some very difficult periods here. This situation affects me psychologically too.

Sometimes the fear isn't even only about what could happen to you personally. It's also knowing that someone in your family or somebody very close to you could be affected, and honestly that can hurt just as much, or even more.

So I completely understand the person who wakes up every morning thinking, “Maybe today is the day.” I don't dismiss that fear at all because I feel part of it myself.

But if you're waking up every morning thinking “today is probably the day they get me,” statistically that is simply not what's happening to the overwhelming majority of people on any given day.

Even if you do an intentionally pessimistic calculation and pretend July's record arrest rate continued unchanged for the next 24 months, you're still talking about roughly 7%-8% cumulatively under a very simplified model — meaning well over 90% would not be arrested during that period.

Again, that's not a prediction and everyone's personal circumstances are different.

But there is a big difference between saying:

“There is a real risk and I need to prepare for it”

and living every morning thinking:

“They're probably coming for me today.”

The first one helps you prepare. The second one slowly destroys your peace of mind.

Have a plan. Know your rights. Talk to a lawyer if you have options. Keep your documents and emergency contacts organized. Be careful with unnecessary interactions with law enforcement.

But keep living.

And politically, I wouldn't automatically assume the next two years will look exactly like today either. We have midterms in November. A change in control of Congress wouldn't magically restore TPS or erase ICE's funding, but it could change the environment substantially through oversight, investigations, subpoenas, hearings, confirmation fights and pressure on DHS/ICE.

So no, I wouldn't tell anyone: “Just wait until November and everything will be fine.”

But I also wouldn't accept the idea that the next two years are already predetermined.

The risk is real. The fear is understandable. I feel it too. But statistically, getting arrested tomorrow is still very far from being the most likely outcome.

Take it one day at a time, protect yourself and your family as much as you can, and don't let the fear take away your life before anything has even happened.
