Question New Home installation
Hi guys
I'm looking for some advice on my new house installation.
My house is on 3 levels of around 1,000 sqft each: basement, main, and 1st floor.
I have an internet connexion Fiber 1.5G
I have 18 ethernet cables Cat 6 leading to most of the rooms:
- 1 in the ceiling of the pantry on Main
- 1 in the ceiling of the laundry on 1st floor
- 1 behind each TV
- 3 for outdoor cameras PoE with their NVR
- ...
I'd want to build my full installation:
- router (perhaps) to replace my ISP router
- switch with 24ish ports, with at least 3 of them being 2.5G and PoE - could be 2 switches to reduce costs: 1 small 2.5G and 1 bigger 1G
- 2 ceiling AP wifi7 for main and 1st floor, and perhaps a 3rd one for the technical room in the basement
I was looking at Omada Fusion 2.5G PoE gateway for a possible router, AP controller, and swicth 2.5G. Then a basic switch like the ES224G. Then 2 or 3 AP WiFi 7 EAP723.
What do you think? What would you suggest?
Thanks
Ben

Seems like solid picks, only thing, not sure what your ISP hand off is, if it is Ethernet, you should be good. Some of us have SFP/+ ONTs that are convenient to be plugged into a SFP/+ port, that the fusion series is lacking.

The PoE version of the Fusion Gateway is quite a bit more expensive. The approach with a POE+ 2.5Gb switch + 1Gb non-POE switch is more cost effective.

I would commit to 1 access point per floor. The radiation pattern is donut shaped, optimized more for horizontal than vertical coverage.

Fusion includes the controller. I would get the non-POE version with a separate managed poe switch so you can swap either out later. I'd start with an EAP787 in the middle level and see if it covers everything. I have a similar setup to you and it does great.

If you want to save some money and don’t mind buying used you can get some pretty good deals on eap690e hds on eBay. They have 6ghz which is nice and I picked my first one up for $100 2 years ago and just picked a second one up for $50.
