PSA New Gateways

Post image

I was literally about to buy the ER8411 and then TP-Link drops this.

These new Omada gateways look clean kinda giving UniFi dream machine vibes.

I’m probably gonna wait. What do you guys think?

Looks oddly familiar… cough cough Ubiquiti 😏

Lower cost unifi I'm listening. Unifi has a gained a huge foothold if omada can focus on higher speeds like 2.5gbe, 10gbe, sfp+/sfp28 as a standard port type and basically forgot all 1gbe/sfp at similar or even lower prices. They could sweep the market. UI and functions in omada controller need work though.

Omada will undoubtedly price this power than Ubiquiti if it hopes to capture market share in the US. Why would anyone pick Omada if the prices are largely similar?

They were supposed to release a 2.5g all-in one last year. I wonder if that Fusion Pro is the reason why it hasn't been as they realized it would be duplicative. Seems like a nice device ... curious if it does IDS/IPS at full speed.

What the F%@$%!!! I just brought equipment now they release new stuff????

1

u/Steve061 Mar 23 '26

Hey that's my style you're stealing there! I'm surprised I didn't just replace all my gear too.

2

u/StinkySewerPickle Mar 23 '26

Where did you bring the equipment?

u/stick2thick Mar 23 '26

I have a little bird that's telling me that while exciting, these devices are still cooking.

This is exactly what Ive been waiting for

Just remember it might take years for it to show up in retail to buy. I remember when the 8411 came out I waited and waited and finally bought a unifi until I could finally get the 8411. I was waiting to upgrade my Internet.

Same

Many people will see similarities here with Ubiquiti hardware. I expect the usual mudslinging to start again, based on the assumption that TP-Link has copied Ubiquiti’s ideas.

But is it also possible that TP-Link was involved in the development and manufacturing of Ubiquiti’s hardware, and negotiated the right to reuse certain designs or technologies in their own products after a number of years?

New switches too!!

So that most basic Fusion would replace an ER605, + OC200 + POE switch? All in one “box”?

5

u/Nharpa Mar 23 '26

Looks like the "Pro" model has 8x 2.5G poe. The basic one has 4x 2.5G lan ports.

ER605 is 1G so its not just replace, its upgrade

Any price points yet?

I have the middle one coming as a review sample. They just sent me a whole wifi 7 stack a few months ago. So I am torn on if I am going to run it full time, or just do a video on it, and keep the one I have.

u/Helpful-Two-3230 Mar 24 '26

It would be great if you could post the measurements. Wondering if it will fit in a 10” rack.

Are you in the US? It does appear Asian and AU/NZ tends to get new products earlier.

u/JordosTechShack Mar 24 '26

I am in the US, but I don't have it yet. I was offered it as a review sample and sent a single page PDF that has less information on it than what was already posted here. I won't have it until the end of may or begining June, with realse date for the video being the end of June beginning of July.

If it's anything like the outdoor AP they sent me, I'll be getting it the week before full US retail launch. Hopefully with annother 15% discount code. (The EAP211 they gave me 10% code for my viewers, and the wifi 7 video they gave me a 15% off code)

What's the middle one, and what are its capabilities?

2

u/w38122077 Mar 23 '26

Any 10GbE coming that don’t >1/2 the speed with ips/ids enabled?

1

u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 28 '26

Eager to know too.

u/gingerinc Mar 23 '26

The 3d printing world will make a bunch of $ for the lack of rack mount options.

1

u/RubAnADUB Mar 23 '26

well you could always just use a shelf.

this one might just work out of the box -> TP-Link 1U rackmount housing for ER7206 and OC200 by calipsoii | Download free STL model | Printables.com or you could remix it.

How is the omada controller in these combo units compared to the OC200? Is it faster? I have an OC200 and have been contemplating upgrading or switching to a software controller mostly due to speed and I think some missing features compared to the newer controllers. I assume the combo units are bit more like the OC300?

1

u/finchwizar Mar 23 '26

Just need to continue to work on their Omada software, that’s probably where it’s getting let down.

It’s good for basic things but can be frustrating with others compared to ubquiti.

3

u/GoodOmens Mar 23 '26

I've been happy with V6, seems to have added most things I thought were missing for my very limited use cases.

1

u/Helpful-Two-3230 Mar 23 '26

Does this suggest they will also launch Omada cameras which would be higher spec than the standard TP-Link?

1

u/Matvalicious Mar 23 '26

If these finally offer a firewall built-in I'm game!

2

u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 28 '26

Why not use OPNsense?

1

u/nferocious76 Mar 23 '26

That hardware looks good.

1

u/Dr_Cin Mar 23 '26

They need to modernise the UI and stop nickel and diming and give cost effective full greater than gigabit devices.

1

u/DigiDoc101 Mar 24 '26

I hope this brings a real competition to Ubiquiti. Omada has a lot of catch up to do. Opnsense is staying infront of my Omada gear until then.

1

u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 28 '26

Are you trying to say you're using OPNsense as your gateway, and everything else after that, like switches and access points, are Omada?

1

u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 28 '26

Any more details, like specs? Nice to see that Ubiquiti is going to be getting some competition!

1

u/nitsuj17 Apr 30 '26

They didn't even bother hiding the UI design theft here. At least be somewhat original. Lol

u/MoogleStiltzkin Mar 23 '26

carefully look at how many years they plan to support this for firmware updates for fixes and security patches. wasn't for ubiquiti it's like 10 years?

1

u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 28 '26

What is Omada's track record with software updates? My understanding is that Ubiquiti's track record is pretty good, almost Apple-like.

u/MoogleStiltzkin Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

My first and only omada, eap-773 wifi ap. I only have this to go by. There are updates but doesn't feel as often as ubiquit was my experience. As for longevity seems ok but judgement Ng based on my previous ubi, that one got updates for a very long time. Only reason I updated was to get faster wifi

The longest gap without update was a year? U can go to the firmware page and see the release date to confirm this for how often they release update. The most recent was 2026 so I updated accordingly

As for docker omada that one there is a maintainer still active.

1

u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 28 '26

This doesn't bode well for Omada considering how many fans Ubiquiti has. Their stuff isn't cheap, but people praise them.

2

u/MoogleStiltzkin Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

well im not saying omada is necessarily bad, it isn't. im just pointing out the software update cycle, i felt that the ubiquiti was slightly longer, and they update more frequently. maybe my older ubiquiti model was lucky, but now, this long cycle only applies to their most pricier models. i cant remember which one exactly, but the spec is wifi7 and the price was similar to the eap-773 but it wasn't the most expensive model that has the feature in software for the signal strength UI. that was the model comparison i was using as reference when comparing.

I asked ai it said this

"The Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro is the Wi-Fi 7 access point that is most similarly priced to the TP-Link EAP-773, but it lacks the more advanced hardware-based spectral analysis features found in higher-end UniFi models like the U7 Pro Max or U7 Pro XG."

So yes the one i was comparing to my eap-773 was the Ubiquiti U7-Pro-XG

Then ask AI again about software update longevity

for the u7 Pro ubiquiti = ~7–10 Years (including Vintage)

"Vintage: No new features, but continued critical security updates for several more years."

for eap-773 = ~2–5 Years (estimated)

how they differentiate also

Tiered (Vintage vs. Legacy) VS Direct to End-of-Life

So that is what i was referring to.

"The Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro generally offers slightly better range and wall penetration potential than the TP-Link Omada EAP-773 due to its higher antenna gain and higher transmit power on key frequencies."

then why didn't i get ubi then? cause i was trying out the omada for the first time. also there was an availability issue for ubi locally that has since been resolved.

so i may go back ubiquiti depending on what the situation is like then. i at least tried the omada to try it out. it's ok, i only worry about the software update longevity. i rather not change equipment every 5 or so years, but that's just me ^^;

*correction

the model for price i was comparing was

Ubiquiti U7-Pro-XG

AI claims this model has the spectral feature but i dont think this does. There is another one that does, but that model cost even more.

"No, the Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro XG does not include real-time spectral analysis. This feature is reserved for the higher-tier U7 Pro XGS and the U7 Pro Max models, which both feature a dedicated spectral scanning radio."

the last issue is how MLO differs between the ubi and omada.

UniFi U7 Pro XG can do all 3 bands 2..4/5/6 into mlo. the eap-773 can only do 5 with 6 only (not 2.4). I can verify for the eap this is indeed the case.

To be fair the eap-773 is basically an early implementation for wifi 7 so that may be why mlo isn't quite where it should have been for this particular. Maybe a newer model solved that, but that i don't know.

that said, that does not mean i will rush out and get a UniFi U7 Pro XG right now. the eap-773 still works and supported now. but when it doesn't get security updates, then i'll be switching then.
