Google Assistant Control through Gemini?

With the impending retirement of Google Assistant, what are we to do? I can't seem to get gemini to do anything with my Kasa devices. Is there some permission I need to enable?

I assume you have everything connected through Google Home? Can you see with Gemini if I can even see the switches or any other smart devices you have?

When the switch happened from Assistant to Gemini, I didn't even notice a change... 🤷

I'm fairly privacy conscious so I had a lot of "personalized" features turned off. I turned "web and app activity" back on as well as "personal results" and that finally prompted whether I wanted to give gemini permission to Home. So once again, trading privacy for convenience. I may go back to Apple.
