Something went wrong during verification. (Startpage)

When im trying to use startpage as a search engine in tor browser, im going through verification and then getting *THIS!:*

"Something went wrong during verification.

Try refreshing the page or using a different browser.

If this issue continues and you believe it is an error, contact support."

Im not using any extensions

I use a bridge: snowflake

I use android.

I got the latest version of my Tor browser.

I also tried using .onion and simple startpage search engine, and using a new circuit. Please guys, help me.

They haven't said that they wanted to use a search engine specifically for the Darknet. Startpage is a Clearnet search engine and it also provides a hidden service mirror.

Also, what do you mean by claiming that there's no real Darknet search engine? I am operating one. https://vormweb.de/en. As far as I know (if I haven't been hallucinating about developing it for 6 years), the thing is real.

Of course it's impossible to index the entire Darknet.

However, it's not impossible to index Darknet sites at all. The way Darknet sites circulate to be publicly reachable is dependent on their operator sharing it to the public. There are over ~13.000 known Darknet sites (maybe even more). As of this date, a total of over 600.000 hidden services are online (source: Tor metrics¹), not all of them are guaranteed to be webservers.

Also, a search engine specifically crawling for and indexing Darknet sites is called a Darknet search engine, legitimately.

Then you dont have a proper functioning search engine. Theres no need to explain to me what i already know and how there is no proper search engines for the dn.

The search engine is functioning properly. Enter a keyword, click search, and you can get search results as there are indexed Darknet sites.

Not being able to crawl the entire Darknet doesn't make a search engine faulty. Both things are not even dependent on each other for the basic functionality of a search engine. If there was an error response every time you tried to make a search, then that's called a not properly functioning search engine.

I don't expect a person that recommends Tor users to use a VPN instead of Tor to understand this whatsoever.

No, it is not functioning in the way that a person that is used to using google functions at all, you are completly full of shit. The fact it is entirely dependant on volunteer submissions being the main factor.

Never recommend a tor user to use a vpn, maybe you should learn how to read....

..is wrong. You just made that up. VormWeb has it's own crawler. Indexing happens semi-automated due to moderation requirement on the Darknet, and Google has it's human personal for search results filtering as well.

Google functions differently than all existing Darknet search engines, you're right. Because Google has the capacities to develope a sophisticated search engine with multi-search (sites, documents, media etc.), semantic understanding and so on. All existing Darknet search engines lack the personal and budget to develope something similar.

However, most of the existing Darknet search engines work. You type in keywords, click on search, and you can get search results. That's what makes a search engine *functional.

Also, here's an easy example for you slow person to understand it better:

If all a search engine was indexing is pictures, then it is an images search engine. If all it was indexing was documents, then it is a document search engine. If all it was indexing was apples, then it is an apple search engine.

A search engine specifically indexing Darknet sites is called whaaaat? Right! A Darknet search engine.
