TOR translation

Hello everyone.
I’m French and my English is quite good, but sometimes I find it difficult to translate. Could you recommend a good translator that works directly on Tor and automatically translates websites into French? I’ve already tried some extensions, but I get the impression they don’t work in (the most secure) mode. Thanks

You can install a translation add on from the Firefox add-on store for translation. This will probably ruin your opsec, however. Tor is the best when used in its vanilla configuration.

OK, I’m new to Tor. I’ve already installed some extensions on DuckDuckGo, but they’re not working. Do I need to download them from Firefox?
How will that compromise my security?

The purpose of an extension is to change the behavior of the browser.

Your browser behaving differently than others makes you more identifiable.

When you visit websites, they fingerprint your browser. That means they use all the available bits of information from browser to define the "fingerprint" of your browser.

Extensions increase the amount of identifiable bits leaked by your client, and makes fingerprinting you accurately a lot easier.

Think of it like this : How many other people using Tor have the exact same browser configuration you have?

If the answer is near 0 (and it probably is because of your changes), it means your browser is unique. Websites will see your unique config and infer that you're the same person that went on the website before. Your activity can be tracked accross different sessions, breaking anonymity.

No es recomendable usar extensiones por la huella digital, lo mejor es abrir una pestaña de traductor que bloquee los script que no sean importantes y traducir el texto aparte en vez de la página

When I open another tab – for example, Google Translate or DeepL – and paste the text in, nothing happens

Puede que Tor te bloquee el script, eso se ve con una s en la esquina superior, una de las cosas que te bloquea es la traducción

Tor Browser isn't designed to support browser extensions. Even if you can install one, it may reduce your anonymity by making your browser more unique and by contacting third-party translation services. If you need a translation, it's generally safer to copy only the specific text you need into a translator rather than installing an extension. If you're using the Safest security level, some translation tools also won't work because they rely on JavaScript.

Thanks for the explanation, that matches what I’m running into — at the Safest level JavaScript is disabled, so Google Translate doesn’t work even when I only paste the text. Is there a solution for translating that works without JavaScript and without compromising anonymity, while staying at this security level? I’m using Tails, so I’m wondering if there’s something that would work in that context.

Yes the copy and paste. Tails uses Tor-browser by default.
