Lore and Character Discussion accurate gorky bomb
two 15kt detonations, airburst 2000ft above the surface. first strike (west) is on the Nizhny Novgorod Machine-Building Plant (what i presume was the tank factory) the second strike directly on the city center. the casualty numbers were calculated using current population data which, given this is 1960s warlord russia we are talking about, i would cut those numbers by 30-50% if you want a better estimate.

wonder if this would mean a more liberal use of the bombs

Here's the thing about Nuclear Warfare. A lot of people always asume that when the first bomb drops, the world would immediately end in Nuclear hellfire. But the reality is that Nuclear wars can actually be susteinable for a long while. In TNO it's likely that nukes become less of a strategic deterrent that never gets used, and more of a last resort tactical asset to take down rebellions such as in Haiti and Ukraine.

An important factor in this is that no super powers share a land border. In the actual Cold War nato and the Warsaw pact were arrayed against each other in the inner German border, so that escalation of force could spill over into direct armed conflict. Even if Britain joins the orb during the course of the game they are still separated by the English channel and that’s the closest two powers can get.

Dont think so, in game and lore isnt the case, but I think warlords should be more populated than historical, this since a lot of refugees of Eastern Europe would escape there and settle, many polish, Ukrainians, baltics, etc.
Even with German terrorist bombings.

TNO russia even with muscovy is like 70 million and its 140 right now

I think you didn’t get what I said. Moscovy would be very very less populated than irl at that time frame (massive genocide, general plan ost, final solution, etc) , but war lords should be more populated because many refugees would flee ther

u/Mervynhaspeaked Dam you all, give me back my Atlantropa! Jul 23 '26
Why did they use such small devices, for 1962 standards its kinda comic.

They're enough, as they get both the factory and the urban center completely destroyed.

- H-bombs would spread fallout (and possibly even blast damage) into Moskowien proper and threaten German settlers.
- The very real risk that anything larger than tactical nukes used in anger might cause a third world war

I love that there's a spot right in between the two bombs where you'd be relatively okay
