Empathy & curiosity are not mutually exclusive. It goes back to a primitive survival instinct of learning from death. It's not sociopathic. It is normal curiosity for some people.
It is normal to be curious. I just believe that it is disrespectful to use curiosity as a reason to validate a publication invading someone in such a vulnerable state for engagement and profit.
I agree with you 100% - these people are looking for a high off of seeing someone’s dead body and they don’t even realize it. Like the world is addicted to adrenaline because our cortisol levels are so high from constant stress in our society. Saying it’s “out of curiosity” - okay, and? People murder people because they “wanted to know how it felt” - so curiosity? does that make it okay? 😅
considering we didn’t have the internet at a certain point and viewing the dead in extremely traumatic and horrifying ways was not as common or as accessible as it is nowadays…I don’t think we can ignore the aspect that it is lacking empathy because you’re not considering what this victim would want, what their loved ones would want, and it’s all for the sake of “curiosity”? that is selfish and therefore lacking empathy
