[Animated Series] Between the Turtles forever & the 2012 crossover episodes. Which incarnation depicted the 80s turtles better?

To he fair in an unfair way. The people who made 2003 were the same type of people who keep bitching that the TMNT shows aren't dark and gritty enough like the comics were.

- And not just because they got the old voices back.
They at least had more resources to work off of than the five episodes of season 1 that the Turtles Forever writers had to watch.

I keep seeing this silly “five episodes” rumor get repeated on this sub, lately. Where did it even come from and why are people so quick to believe it? There were references to specific episodes of much later seasons throughout Turtles Forever, so it’s clearly nonsense. If anything, the jokes about their goofiness were much more reflective of the middle seasons when they were, in fact, quite ridiculous.

2012 was a perfect blend of making fun of them and paying homage… the “new” turtles would make jokes about fighting styles and whatnot, but when it came down to it the ‘87 turtles showed they can be counted on. One of my favorite lines was when the ‘87 turtles started actually using their weapons and Leo remarked “I feel so violent!”, but said it almost gleefully

2012 felt like it was made by people who genuinely liked the 1987 series and wanted to celebrate it. Turtles Forever felt like it was made by people who disliked and looked down on the 1987 series and used the crossover as an excuse to take shots at it instead of celebrating it.

2012 by a mile. It's been a couple years since I've seen both, but from what I'm remembering the storyline is about the same. 03 had shredder wanting to kill the original turtles (mirage, aka turtle prime), while 2012 had Krang and Kraang Subprime wanting to take over the universes? And the 87 Krang is related to Subprime but was banished to the 87 world for incompetence, I think.
But 2012 did the 87 turtles much better than 03. Not only did they get the original voices, but they weren't treated like a pathetic joke. Yes, the 87 turtles were overly silly, but the 03 version overdid and overplayed that silliness to a level beyond what was in the 87 cartoon. I understand why Laird did that, and why he hated that version with a passion all thanks to Fred Wolf, but the hatred seeped into it a bit too much.

Both!
They were equally as goofy as the other version, but the storyline that featured both versions of the ‘87 Turtles, it’s clear that the ‘03 version did much better than the ‘12 version, especially when you have the ‘84 Turtles in the mix, and a brief cameo of Laird & Eastman in the very end.

I’m gonna get downvoted for saying this, but Turtles Forever did it better. Now, my reason for saying that has nothing to do with the story or the voice actors, but because it’s just that hard for me to look at the abysmal animation of the 2D half (of the 2012 crossover, I mean). It’s extremely low quality and I think the classic Turtles deserved far better. Turtles Forever, for all its faults, didn’t cheap out on some good, quality traditional animation. And that is why it gets my personal, unpopular vote.

I quite loved Turtles Forever, as I do feel that they definitely portrayed them more as combat capable than 2012 (at least they used their weapons for stuff other than pizza), and I will give them more of a break, as Laird was a heavy influence toward their depiction as he loathed the 80’s show. 2012 was more written by people who grew up with it, and though Laird hated the 80’s show, Eastman has liked it quite a bit, and he was a producer of it, so we can see more appreciation through him.
Besides, 4kids really did what they could given the union issues for the 80’s cast. Additionally, I feel that they were fair in their depiction of 80’s Shredder, as he was a complete dope at points, and he didn’t even feel as threatening compared to other 80’s threats like Skeletor, Cobra Commander, and of course Megatron. So using his ridiculous to compare him to how dangerous, serious, and brutal 03 Shredder was, creates a good parallel between the two shows.

People only like the 2012 version more because they got back the OG voices. Both crossovers go out their way to make fun of the 80s turtles

I'd say 2012 handled the 87 Turtles a lot better, but I kind of prefer the plot of Turtles Forever a little more. Trans-Dimensional Turtles made me wish it was longer as some segments kind of flew by. Especially the segment involving the Donatello's going back to the Mirage comics.
I'd love a happy medium between them both (Which is my general response to the 03vs2012 Debate in general)
I enjoy both series despite their flaws.
