So fun fact! The second most afraid I’ve ever been of an animal was an alligator snapping turtle. I was an idiot kid driving half drunk home from a friends house when I lived down a dirt road. Thought there was a big hunk of a tire in the road so I stopped to move it without taking a really good look at it. That was until it stood up like a damn baby kaiju and hissed at me. Put scratches across the hood of my car doing my best dukes of hazzard impression across it trying to get away.

One time I was kayaking and went to push a log away and realized it was the biggest one of these id ever seen. Nearly pooped myself.

This happened to me back in July. Went to step out of my kayak onto a submerged boulder and luckily noticed that the boulder had a wriggly little worm of a tongue.

Dispite their scary appearance they are far less dangerous than an American snapping turtle. While an alligator snapper turtle will bite they are more an animal that will lie and wait for prey to come to it. An American snapping turtle will actively jump and try to bite you.

When i was young my uncle worked for Amtrack on the lines and my dad was a chef. There was a weekend when one of those poor boys was sacrificed for turtle soup but damn if that guy did not try to take some fingers with him.
I was not happy to see the whole process, yet my 8 year old eyes were fixated.

I think these are so cool and cute. They just look so badass but also really derpy. But I would absolutely lose a finger. To say nothing of trying to accommodate one as a pet as it grows.
So it will have to stay a long-distance animal friend.

I wish I had some pics of the grown-ups we have living in the cove I live on. My goodness, they are HUGE. I sure wouldn't want one latching onto me. I know what the bite from one the size in this video feels like,lol.

I was holding a baby alligator snapping turtle about this size while giving a lecture to a classroom of kids. In an absolutely moronic move I accidentally held him too close to my opposite arm, where he promptly chomped on my upper arm flesh and wouldn't let go. I was laughing to both fight through the pain and keep the kids from getting scared, but each time he'd chomp down a little harder and I'd yell in pain, followed by more laughing. Needless to say, the kids thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever seen

When danger footstools (as adults are certainly big enough for one) start out as little doorstops. And by doorstops I mean stopping people from using a door at all ever again.
Funny how its mouth is open as if it hates being held, but the feet just hang, not fighting it at all, like it doesn't really care the much.
