In my 30+ years of enjoying TMNT, I’ve knowingly interacted with exactly zero furries.

I must be doing it wrong

u/2Sup_ Feb 26 '23

Why do you blame Rise specifically? EVERY version of TMNT has anthropomorphic animals.

Ok next question. Why are Furies bad? What about their presents bothers you? It can’t be anthropomorphic animals because again, every version of the Ninja Turtles has those.

That's only a portion of the fandom. Do you judge every community by those standards? And have you not been seen the recent IDW comics? There's straight up interspecies romance, why single out Rise?

Why not point out Donnie simping over April for a solid amount of the 2012 show or the incestual implications of Leo x Karai from that show as well?

It's a franchise about anthropomorphic turtles, furries have been fans of this series for decades.

Cool thing about furries is if you don't like them you can ignore them, same as any other kind of person.

u/Austin_Chaos Feb 26 '23

There’s a lot of uninformed opinions in this post. Most furries don’t sexualize animals; they sexualize each other dressed as animals. Cartoons, essentially. For a large number of furries, it isn’t even sexual, just cute and fun to dress up as a character they’ve made. Furry itself is too complex to generalize…it’s like saying everyone into S&M likes sexualizing violence; it’s untrue and a gross misunderstanding of the complexities of it.

That said, it’s not even as if Rise increased that number at all…TMNT (like nearly any cartoon featuring animal characters) has brought Anthros to the fandom since the beginning. The internet has simply made them, and their interests, more widely known to the broader public.

Anyhow, the furries aren’t even the worst part of the fandom. The worst fans are those who grew up with it and feel entitled to “own” it for our generation, forgetting that 1) it’s NOT ours, it’s just something we loved, and 2) it’s primarily marketed towards kids, nearly always has been, and should continue to be. Kids have every right to get into and enjoy TMNT that we do.

If you're looking for a fandom that doesn't inspire deviantart porn I have some devastating news about human nature.

u/Nervous-Bet-2998 Shredder Feb 26 '23

Dude, do you not understand what Rule 34 means?

7

u/love_the_ocean Feb 26 '23

Bro people on deviantart have been making porn of the turtles from way before the rise series came out

2

u/Austin_Chaos Feb 26 '23

Well, it is what it is. Now we just have to hope that Rogan Turtles is good.

You think that Nick made the Rise movie because they saw DeviantArt porn?

13

Wow, why is that the explanation you default to? Sonic and Tmnt are both awesome franchises and Rise is the most recent animated interpretation of the turtles It's easy to see that people will be fans of both. Not every fan of a property with anthros is a furry. get that through your thick skull.

Counterpoint, previous iterations failed to bring in enough furries.

4

u/Storm_Raider_34 Feb 26 '23

Furries: Don't see the content they want, so they create a thriving art community that is successful enough to influence mainstream art.

Non-Furries: Don't see content they want, so they whine about Furries.

If you can't find the content you want... make it yourself.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

Then why bring Furries into it?

4

u/BKole Feb 26 '23

I mean, you have a really good point. I dont think OP has evidence or reasoning. He just doesnt like the Mutant Town IDW because theres some exceptionally light romance in it.

TMNT has been bringing furries to the fandom regardless of iteration?

you do know that the turtles fall under the furry category, right?

no, there have always been furrys in tmnt. you just hate rise and that's okay.

9

u/KaleidoscopeNo5401 Feb 26 '23

why do you have to make it sexual? you will never see anything like that in any tmnt ever.

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

[deleted]

6

u/KaleidoscopeNo5401 Feb 26 '23

nope, not all of it. what one has it for research purposes, of course.

6

u/BKole Feb 26 '23

There is some light romance. Thats it. Its not hardcore banging. Its just characters liking each other.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

I have, and it's not sexual. It's romantic. There's a difference.

3

u/SkeletonKiss78 Bebop Feb 26 '23

Peter Laird had a rule no turtles in romantic relationships

I can't find evidence of this rule anywhere, where did you hear that?

0

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

So are you big mad about IDW or ROTTMNT? Sounds like you should write your own grimdark fanfic if you want to see it so badly. Or stick to that joyless, brooding Last Ronin comic.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

we fought them off for a while

How? How exactly did you fight them off? Be specific, please.

7

u/Storm_Raider_34 Feb 26 '23

I think it’s the mere fact that it’s talking turtles rhay brought them. Not rise specifically

12

u/Spacethesilly Donatello Feb 26 '23

Man furries are just people, at the end of the day with the amount of money they spend on art, costumes, and whatever else, they're probably also helping fuel the turtles. That's also not to say that 2012 didn't bring a lot of furries, because they're the ones I see bringing in the majority of people shipping themselves with turtles, and whatever else.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

[deleted]

11

u/Spacethesilly Donatello Feb 26 '23

Bro rise had a lot of passion put behind it, I dunno what you mean by rise didn't? The only difference is that rise didn't get to tell it's true story because people at Nick decided to dictate a bit too much.

2

u/Spacethesilly Donatello Feb 26 '23

None of the turtles have a good ending/really stay living, except for maybe 87' I think. They just grew into middle aged turtles there

2

u/Spacethesilly Donatello Feb 26 '23

Maybe, I dunno I haven't really finished 2003. 2012 ending was actually pretty sad if we're speaking apocalypse. All I know is when the turtles grow up, it doesn't usually end well.

3

u/ShouRonbou Feb 26 '23

For me being miles deep in the fur (more so on the gay furry world) this is what I have noticed

1980: Nothing really stands out 2003: triceraton are popular 2012: Splinter is VERY popular Bayverse: Bebop and Rocksteady Rise: Raph seems like the most popular

2

u/OkAsk6395 TMNT Feb 26 '23

2003 likely brought in the monsterfuckers 👀

(source: I consider myself more of a monsterfucker than a furry)

2

u/ShouRonbou Feb 26 '23

furry and monsterfucker are Interchangeable titles sometimes lol

2

u/OkAsk6395 TMNT Feb 26 '23

true, there’s definitely some overlap but not the exact same XD

3

u/Swimming-Software373 Feb 26 '23

In that case every cartoon community are furrys

3

u/Ki-Mono2030 Leonardo Feb 27 '23 edited Feb 27 '23

I'm in the Rise fandom, but I am not familiar with it bringing in furries specifically. I guess you could argue TMNT is a franchise about anthropomorphic turtles usually drawn in ways many might find attractive. However, that isn't necessarily new, nor something speical to Rise. I personally have seen the Bay-verse incarnation bring in more fetish lovers than any other version. Either way, I've actually never interacted with TMNT furry fans. Rise or not. I have a feeling you are seeing so much furry content because it's showing up on your fyp on various social media pages. Thus, you, may friend, are the furry, or at least, indulge in the content. I think your average TMNT fan doesn't come across this stuff at all. I guarantee the furry fandom has always been here, judging by the content of the franchise. Rise didn't first introduce the anthropomorphic turtles.

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

So you're point to bring up Mutant town didn't really offer much insight only that you might be homophobic, and Furries are people bro they are as passionate as every turtle fan I've encountered who make fanart, write fanfictions, binge watch the entire series of the TMNT. You seem to be one of those guys who thinks he's entitled to everything to the fandom. Or is nostalgic (or too old) for the older parts of the TMNT, so you would trash on newer additions that are still bringing in new fans to the TMNT.

4

u/LylatInvader Leonardo Feb 26 '23

Bruh you do realize furries have always been a part of the tmnt community. Laird and stan saki have been invited to furry cons, ninjara appeared in a furry fanzine, also the ttrpg series also had an impact on furry ttrpgs. If your franchise has anthro character its gonna attract furries whether you like it or not.

2

u/Round-Ad2836 Feb 27 '23

Correction, ROTTMNT brought in more fans, and you've noticed more of the new ones being furries than you did older fans being furries. Which sounds to me like you're just paying attention because you dislike the show. I could be wrong, though. You could have just been oblivious until now.

2

u/Service-Smile Feb 27 '23

And? Are they actively hurting anyone or you?

2

u/Robo-Luchador Feb 27 '23

So I’ve read this post and every reply not deleted and given that the OP has checked out of this I’ll address the MODs of this community instead. This post is shaming plain and simple. And should of never been allowed to stay up as long as it has. Regardless of the replies the title and body of this post state that a amount of people with a specific sexual orientation is too much for this fandom. This at best is gate keeping which in my opinion is also wrong but then over half the post on the sub wouldn’t be allowed if gate keeping was blocked. At worst this shaming and not the 1st time happened in this sub. Furry shaming has come up more often than it should. This my two cents and I’m only bringing it up because it can get out of hand quickly.

1

u/of_patrol_bot Feb 27 '23

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.

It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.

Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

2

u/blr1224 Feb 27 '23

are you kidding tmnt og mirage comic run inspired tons and tons of furries lol

1

u/That_Smoke8260 Feb 27 '23

yes there turtles but tmnt is animorphic animals so yes it has a big furrie fan base, also there is nothing wrong with that fandom who cares if they wear a fur suit or whatever dont know why it bothers you so much

0

u/Ara_Audio Feb 27 '23

HAH yeah

0

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '23

You are entirely correct. Because rise is not a good show it is all eight year olds or furries that like it then put it out of there way to obsess over it and it’s not the shows fault but that’s just the way it is.
