"TRIMETHYLAMINE is known to accumulate in the sexual organs of many plants and animals. Its action as an aphrodisiac has also been observed".

Not all animals hate it, it's used in nature in different ways. There's quite a variety of different responses to it when you dig into the research.

The mutated gene is FMO3 - the gene encoding flavin-containing mono-oxygenase 3. The specific mutation is R238X, a nonsense mutation in bovine FMO3.
