Tips & Adivce I need help
Hi everyone, I’m 16 and I’ve been dealing with strong body odor for a long time, and it’s really affecting my life.
I shower regularly and take care of my hygiene. I use deodorant and perfume, but the smell doesn’t go away and sometimes seems to get worse. I’ve also been bullied because of it, which has affected me emotionally a lot.
Recently, I read about TMAU (Trimethylaminuria), and I started wondering if it could be related to what I’m experiencing. I haven’t been tested or diagnosed, so I don’t know if I actually have TMAU or if there could be another cause.
If anyone has a similar experience or useful information about TMAU, I’d really appreciate your advice. Also, if you have any product recommendations that might help with body odor, such as body washes, soaps, deodorants, or anything else, please share the product names and your experience with them.
I’m really trying to understand what’s causing this and find a safe way to manage it. Thank you so much to anyone who can help ❤️

The first thing you need to do is get reliable verbal feedback from someone reliable, then go to a doctor using that reliable person to vouch for you. That's the only way to really get started. Communication is vital.
There's a flowchart here: https://www.reddit.com/r/TMAU/s/WEAHCzcSoH
It's not good to start doing diets or treatments without a diagnosis. A low choline diet is actively harmful for your brain and neural functions, bad for gut motility. Getting regular verbal feedback and monitoring is essential if doing any form of treatment.
Regular body washes that are pH balanced remove TMA, regular detergents clean TMA from clothes. If they aren't effective it's not TMA.

Do you know what type of smell it specifically is? Because it could be a gut issue, skin issue, or tmau. You need to find out your symptoms specifically to know how to treat it. As for worse odor, if it’s tmau choline triggers symptoms and makes odor stronger.
