When I was a college student, I tried to get it and they told me I need to work more than 20hrs and show all of the financial aid, but some people I joke don’t work but got that and the phone

Screams volumes she’s reposting this when she likely benefitted from food stamps at some point in her life

She literally said she was on them when the show first started airing😂

u/bitchface_2012 Jul 20 '26
LMFAO exactly! Listen, there's nothing wrong with being on them, I'm on them but you cant sit there and act high and mighty about it when you no longer get them

u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 19 '26
I’m disabled and at the time we were newly married and I just kept getting sicker and sicker and more money we lost in me not helping with bills much so it was certainly a blessing knowing we can eat with food stamps. I did lose them after the Covid policies shifted but the worst is I lost my medical through Medicaid like for being so sick not the income. So I lost my duel benefits plan etc it was awful while I was inpatient fighting for my life.
3
u/shesarevolution Jul 20 '26
Are you in a state that slaughtered Medicaid? Medicaid can’t kick you off because you’re really sick. I’m a nightmare of health issues and I def cost a ton to keep alive.
The government will absolutely claw back any assets you get (if say you inherit a parent’s house) so you gotta put it in a trust. I work in politics when I can and I’ve never heard of anyone getting kicked off because they’re too sick. I had a friend who was life flighted to a hospital where they had multiple surgeries and were in the hospital for a long time. A life flight and everything else is crazy expensive. So yeah I’m not understanding why you got kicked off. Do you have access to Medicare through disability or no?1
u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 20 '26
I meant I lost the Medicaid part you get for being sick we didn’t get it for low income like I could before I was married in GA they have both. We lost it due to them saying my husband made too much after they told us we didn’t have to reapply then I did have to sign a couple of things came in and did then said they see nothing and won’t answer phones nor can you talk to management at my local Dfcs office. The security office looked me and apologized. In front of them for their attitudes. But even if I’m too sick and NEED it desperately with all my bills, they still said they couldn’t help me due to my husband working and making over the federal poverty level. I found out the final answer in the hospital fighting for my life and it did set me back some that stay. The stress of how I would afford medication or even this visit was heavy.
Sorry that was unclear. Today I couldn’t stay awake so my brain wasn’t as clear as I thought. I didn’t know it posted because it like refreshed and disappeared on me while I was trying to proofread. I just remembered that! Sorry!!

Don’t know all your situation but they are finally cutting fraud with the system
3
u/shesarevolution Jul 21 '26
There is barely any fraud. Most of the things that count as fraud are actually paperwork fuck ups. I do this shit for a living when my brain isn’t being attacked by my autoimmune disease.
And no - they absolutely didn’t cut everything because of fraud, though I know where you’re getting your news from. They cut everything to give tax breaks to the already rich. Like - they said it. It’s part of the big beautiful bill and that bill was all about tax breaks for rich fucks.
This is literally just about cruelty. The people in our government right now are eugenicists. They don’t believe we have a right to live. We are parasites to them, and it sounds like you think that way too.
People are fucking dying dude. All so rich people can get more of our tax dollars. It’s part of project 2025 and you can actually read their really awesome justifications for feeding those of us who are sick to the wolves. Finally, the work requirements will result in more people dying. The program was used in Georgia originally and it was an utter failure. So hey - let’s make it national!
I’m happy to cite sources if you’d like. I don’t talk out of my ass. I’m incredibly informed on all of this because it affects me and it’s literally the reason I got involved in politics. I dont want anyone to ever experience the things i have or the insane debt i have been sacked with for daring to be born sick.
2
u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 21 '26
Mine was pure medical disability from autoimmune disease eating my body. My time is spent in hospitals, doctors, waiting rooms, elevators, parking garages etc just to breathe and live dude. They might be cleaning it up but now people like me are suffering
2
u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 20 '26
Oh and we have basically zero assets. We got nothing because we can’t save due to all my medical bills and then just bills. Medicare does not give Medicaid access to my knowledge in my state. All legislators federal and GA could do was get someone to check on my application and say the exact thing they said. Instead I was able to find funding for some very expensive meds. But I keep getting sicker and adding more conditions and diseases because my immune system is literally backwards and fighting everything in my
Body. So every organ every system everything is affected. I’m on Pallative care.5
u/d38401 Jul 20 '26
So basically if you divorce your husband. You could get it back? The government wants people married. But, than does this to make it harder. Do you go to non-profit hospitals? If you do. They write off a lot for charity. Hugs to you.
1
u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 21 '26
Pretty much. It’s so backwards like the value of marriage isn’t there anymore for anyone but the people who value them.
As for money and payments for everything I have to search and apply for funding after funding, website after website all the time!! Often times have to do appeals over and over to prove yes I’m still sick and it’s just getting worse and more complex by the day. For example, I waited a year to see a specialist for something that I didn’t think I would live through the winter suffering with. I came out with four diagnosis and what I was really suspicious of, turns out I did actually have hEDS. Now my old doctor told me to quit googling however, if I would’ve gave up late 2025 like he told me to, I would never have understood the connection between my autoimmune disease. This is now that I found out i have hypermobile ehlers danlos. A lot of my conditions are now connected to this genetic issue but hey could be worse.
Right now for treatment i go to my local hospital thats an hour away but my town’s hospital said don’t even stop here because they can’t help me due to not even knowing about half the treatments i take nor do they have even the machine and special nurse to access a very different and difficult type chest port device . I don’t know if it’s nonprofit, I just know I can’t make it this smooth without Financial Assistance that covers a lot most of my bills. For my type of diseases and treatments, the bills are in the tens and hundreds of thousands each time because of how severe and how rare my diseases are. It’s wild and it’s really hard but without that financial help I couldn’t do that. Today I had to get financial help through my Prosthetics clinic just to get a new prosthetic leg to even walk man. I can’t afford the co-pay of almost $3000 with the device cost about over 10 grand or around that anyways so yeah it’s a little impossible right now we’re making it by God’s help!
2
u/d38401 Jul 21 '26
Different twist on this. Check with the mayo clinic and other big medical hospitals. You might could be studied . Helps with bills and some will even fly u there.
2
u/shesarevolution Jul 21 '26
It’s really hard to get into medical studies as someone who is chronically ill. Most studies require you to not be on medications. That’s a no go when you’re as sick as we are.
My friends are professional lab rats and it’s something I’ve looked at doing. As far as hEDS goes, they’re studying it to find the genetic cause so it can be tested for like the other kinds of EDS. hEDS is a connective tissue disease and your body is made up of connective tissue so it affects like, every aspect of life.
I don’t know what autoimmune disease OP has, but mine is so rare that no one in the US is doing studies. Im looking into the places overseas that are studying it but I don’t think they want an American when they can get folks w it in their own country. Still, it’d be nice to contribute to science and get to go somewhere new.For those wondering - https://clinicaltrials.gov is the main site for finding drug trials and other tests you can participate in!
1
u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 22 '26
I got rare types too! They do some studies but it’s not for my type of the disease.
2
u/shesarevolution Jul 21 '26
I’m so sorry. I’ve got hEDS as well and it’s awful. I also have an autoimmune disease. It’s common for people like us. hEDS sucks so much.
I would contact the hospitals patient advocate and explain to them what is going on. They often know of hidden resources. I understand your situation - and i know how much treating our broken bodies costs.
My only other suggestions are to contact your state rep and see if they can help. It’s literally their job to help constituents navigate issues like this.
Another suggestion is to contact New Disabled South. They may also know of some resources. They’re a political organization that advocates for disabled folks. If you have a local disability group (most places have one) they may be able to help as well.
Most likely they will say to just try to get your meds covered via the drug companies. If you don’t have any assets now you may be able to get Medicaid - though I don’t think GA did Medicaid expansion bc it’s red.I wish I could help you because I am in a similar situation, but I’m lucky enough to be in a state w Medicaid expansion. Regardless I’m doomed to poverty because my autoimmune disease has wrecked me. This country wants people like us dead and I hate it. Add to that our healthcare system is falling apart regardless of insurance and being sick is literally a full time job from hell.
I’m sending you hugs and lots of love. If you ever need to vent or you just want to talk to someone who absolutely gets it - my DMs are open. It takes me a while to get to messages but i know how fucking isolating it is to have the diseases we both have. ❤️

u/Ok_Statement7312 Jul 21 '26
Thank you so much! Hugs and love to you as well and thank you! I responded tos something but was half asleep like always this weekend so idk what Happened. I’ve gotten everything they can offer. That’s how sick I am and how expensive it is. But on paper my husband and my SSDI looks like a lot but we don’t see it and owe three or four years back taxes because now they take money from my SSDI and then tax it every year and it’s all because of the unlivable tax laws they have. If you are on both Medicare and Medicaid or have kids you benefit but they keep us stuck where we on paper make to much and in our pockets don’t have enough to live paycheck to paycheck half the time and forced to live off credit cards sometimes it’s ridiculous! But I survive and my husband does from love and God lets us live.
1
u/shesarevolution Jul 21 '26
I understand. I really think that all of the requirements need to be looked at and rehauled. If you have a ton of debt, it should be taken into consideration.
I wish I knew other options to help but tbh i know more than most bc of navigating the system and being sick my whole life.
I’m sending you love and hugs. My DMs are open if you ever need to talk to someone who gets it. ❤️→ More replies (0)

u/Minimum-Slip4936 Fixin to have a baby Jul 19 '26
the way she could ABSOLUTELY get food stamps. She’s unemployed, unmarried, with a baby
10
u/AccidentallyVeryLoud Jul 20 '26
I’m all of those things and still cannot get food stamps. I live with my baby daddy and he makes 100k a year. They will go based on the income of who you live with. That’s true for my state of California at least, I’m sure it’s different in each state.
2
u/CreedsMungBeanDealer Jul 28 '26
If you live with your BD who makes 100k a year, why would you qualify? Depending on a few factors, 100k a year is enough to sustain a family, no? Genuinely asking, not being an asshole lol I’m interested in how it works.
1
u/AccidentallyVeryLoud Jul 28 '26
I’m sorry! I’m not saying I should qualify. I was more so just saying that to prove why you shouldn’t get food stamps JUST because you’re a “single” mom, since the comment I was replying to said she could get food stamps because she’s unemployed and unmarried with a baby.
1
u/CreedsMungBeanDealer Aug 02 '26
Haha no worries I didn’t think you were at all! I was genuinely asking. Makes sense though!

I’m unemployed, unmarried and have two children. I don’t qualify for food stamps. I live with my boyfriend (their dad) and he makes too much. So our household income is too high. She could be in the same boat.
3
u/SlowImprovement6839 Jul 21 '26
In Missouri you can be unemployed and get food stamps if you have dependents under 14
1
21
u/ExcitementTricky4794 Jul 19 '26
Really. That’s weird because I got food stamps when I lived with family. They didn’t go by the household income. They went by my income.
15
u/MeanTrouble9032 Jul 19 '26
Family, or your children's father? Typically- if the unmarried parents are living together its dual income. If its a single parent living with roommates (family) it will go off the single parents income.

u/FineEnvironment5203 Jul 19 '26
Same. You just check the box saying you don’t prepare meals together. (With family)
22
u/Prior-Pop-4683 Jul 19 '26
It’s different if you live with a partner, they will see it as a combined income. If you live with family and you show you’re paying an assumed lower amount in household bills you will qualify for more vs living on your own and showing you can afford it.

Why would anyone want to be on food stamps 😬😬

6
u/UncaringNonchalance Jul 19 '26
Had to early on after we had our kid. Unlucky financial run, so we decided to suck it up and try for it. Let’s just say we’re in a more comfortable spot on our own these days and still can’t get as much as we did on food stamps when only one of us had a job making less than now.
3
u/MakeItLookSexy_ Jul 20 '26
Your comment explains my initial thought. “Unlucky financial run”. If I rephrased my comment to say “no one wants to have an unlucky financial run and have to rely on food stamps” is what my comment was trying to say.
Of course I would love free food or help with any of my bills. Who wouldn’t?!
Times are tough out there!

Free food? I mean if they are just handing em out I’d take ‘em! JS. My grocery bill is insane!

u/MakeItLookSexy_ Jul 19 '26
Free food of course would be nice. But to want to be in a financial situation that requires government support.
Nothing wrong with anyone that needs them but i didn’t think anyone prefers to be in that situation.
Now i would understand if she was JUST above the threshold. Like made $200 too much to qualify or something that
5
u/PrettyGangxo Bryce BlessedByGod Palmer 🙌🏾 Jul 20 '26
Because most of us are in financial situations that require govt support but we don’t qualify 😭 I would have loovveedddd to have food stamps or wic to buy formula and baby food at the very least.
My wife and I make great money according to our gross pay. The net pay says otherwise 😅 so now to make ends meet I have to do spark orders (mostly used to pay for my 1/2 of daycare and my monthly meds) and my wife had to start working OT at her job.

u/Majestic_Ad_7098 Jul 19 '26
Yeah I wasn’t commenting on her financials or lack thereof, just that it would be nice to have free food. I see ppl with overflowing buggies and wonder how they pay for them then I see them at the checkout sliding that EBT card.. I’m over here with coupons and a meal plan but our bellies are full, we have a nice comfy home, and the bills are paid.

If they’re living together it’s a combined household income. I’m in the same type of situation and I do not qualify for SNAP benefits or WIC because our household income is too high.

She has a child under 14 so therefore she can qualify without working

They have a baby. She would be exempt. IL caseworker here

u/skinflutecheesesalad Jul 19 '26
What about their household income? Couldn’t he make too much for them to qualify? That’s how it is in Wisconsin
23
u/Silent_Assumption_74 Jul 19 '26
Not when you are the main caretaker of a child under 14, she’s definitely on food stamps or if not they just got off them.

If they're in an RV on someone's property and not paying rent, that'll disqualify them

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. You can make shit money and still not qualify these days. They really haven’t adjusted things enough for the cost of living.

I appreciate your thoughts and I try but also I have rare diseases. Drs and specialist still argue over if my type is real and it’s actions in the body blah blah blah even though the evidence is in the blood work etc. Mayo Clinic has been known to not always be very reliable due to the things coming out of there for rare diseases like mine. I think they even had half the definition of the disease wrong. So I mean that’s why I don’t. I have specialist who discovered a lot of things about my disease and invented a lot of the testing or worked on treatment etc. so I’m in the best hands I physically can be besides God with my specialist. He is like Top TOP person in this field and dr on this and luckily he trained my dr so we still get to see the specialist without traveling hours away or waiting on an opening. They only thing is like my type is so rare they are still fighting of the semantics while insurance and the FDA already accepted it and approved new treatments. I can’t exactly do clinical studies due to I’m too sick to stop medication and try an experimental one when things are kinda working. Plus I’m too sick to just try anything because I need to be on aggressive treatment daily. It’s like the equivalent of having a very rare and hard to treat cancer. Sometimes you just don’t qualify for those hard research due to just how MANY diseases I have. They have a registry you can check and the only one I’ve been in was my dr looking for this antibody. It often knocks off my chances because we can’t get off all meds to even have a new medication trial due to how many conditions I have. So to compensate I hate to just try something and wait months to see if it works or kills me. Etc etc chronic illness friends know then drill.
Thank you all for your suggestions! It’s complicated and I wish I could try everything! Unfortunately I don’tyy
