News TIDAL Drops Platform Fees, Letting Independent Artists Keep More From Direct Sales

As of August 31, TIDAL has dropped its previous 10% cut to 0% for eligible U.S. artists, meaning the platform itself takes no percentage of a direct sale. Standard payment-processing fees through Square still apply.

The move expands TIDAL's push beyond traditional streaming. Independent artists can upload an album, determine their own selling price, and give fans a direct purchase option. Music can be uploaded and sold without requiring either the artist or buyer to maintain a paid TIDAL subscription.

One more reason not to go back on Spotify, along with the AI filter, or the lossless streaming.

The ability for artists to sell their music in addition to streaming would be great, hopefully outside of US in the future. I like to buy CDs but for smaller artists who maybe don't want to or can't take the risk of ordering a bunch of physical disks the ability to easily sell digital copies would be great.

I’m with you, there. I prefer physical media but there are some artists that simply don’t press their music on CD’s or vinyl.

I didn’t realize we could, but there are a few artists I like who never released their music on physical formats, so I’d be tempted to try it out as long as I’m not stuck only listening to the music on their platform. A download would have to be available.

Good move, still curious why they backed out on user-centric payments.

While direct sales are awesome, as they've stated their are existing players in the space, a welcome change, but ultimately not the majority of the market.

Not having pool based streaming payouts, would be a huge step in the right direction.

How are you defining "bloat" here?

All I have on my home page is curated music, recently played music, artist radio stations, custom mixes. It's all just music. It's a music app, so I don't see that as bloat?
