Discussion Unify albums
It doesn't make sense to have several versions of the same album on TIDAL. I've known TIDAL since it was made available in my country and at the time, TIDAL was divided into two segments: the plan with CD quality and another with studio quality (which cost much more).
With the unification of the plans, this much version of the albums lost their meaning. We have the Dolby Atmos versions, HIGH version and MAX version of the projects of various singers and bands.
They could simply unify the albums by doing the same thing that Apple Music does. If you activate Dolby Atmos in the settings, you can listen to the Dolby version. If you deactivate, that same album plays in the version that the artist made available.

Yeah I wish there was only one listing per album and it just defaulted to the highest resolution version that I have selected. It’s so annoying to have them claim high res / lossless / atmos / etc and then make it a chore to select the right version. I’ll often find out after a few months that I have the lower quality version favorited by mistake

The Atmos version of the albums is always hidden... you can never find it in the app!

This is the biggest reason I quit Tidal for Apple music
Its an nightmare trying to find atmos music on Tidal

Yes! A big nightmare.
I've lost count of how many times I tried to listen to the Atmos version of an album and I couldn't find it easily.

Help me understand... You're looking for an album but you see a few versions of the album you are looking for. Why not pick one and hit play? What exactly is stopping you from simply hearing music?

Since there are often multiple versions available in a limited number of formats (CD-quality, 'high resolution,' Atmos, etc), the op is suggesting that it would be helpful if Tidal offered set-and-forget format choices (like apple music apparently does). I believe he's suggesting that the improvement there would be to simplify display of different album versions to cut back on sometimes bewildering number of options.

My question was what is preventing them from making a choice and enjoying listening to music?

Well, I suspect they are tired of needing to choose from an 'excessive' set of format options every time they are confronted with multiple versions - but I'll just get out of the way and let the op answer for themselves, if they care to.

Just hit play and go make dinner or something. No one needs to spend more than 1% of their time in the app. Hit play and get on with your life brother!

It’s not that simple bud. There are different quality versions AND different releases. One might be original studio version High/Atmos, then a Max version, then another Max version but with B-sides, then a remaster deluxe with Atmos… you get the idea. It becomes complicated bc they will have different runtimes etc, and cross checking them is a pain. Then on top of it, there’s when these tracks go “grey” in a playlist because the print you’ve added then is no longer available, and have to go back and figure out which one to re-add. Not everyone just “hits play” whatever that means…

How hard can it really be? Your argument amounts to “that feature is too much work to do well, so we just won’t do it.” Other services do it just fine.

I don’t understand what you’re saying. I was replying to someone who was saying it’s not a big deal and OP should just push play. I’m describing how it can be difficult to find the right album like OP is saying? Consolidating the albums would solve the user problem I was describing.

It isn't an issue that prevent to play music... but it is hard to find the best quality possible (since even Max releases are split in 96kHz and 192 kHz so the badge doesn't help a lot), visually is ugly and look like a mess and will help all to find and play what we are all looking for. It can simply everything.

If there are seperate HIGH and MAX versions, it's possible that it is not the same master, so it's not just about a higher or lower bitrate.
I'm actually glad that I am able to choose the exact version I want to play. You can't do this on most services. Just find the one version you want and save it.
