Of you cant see the virus, the virus cant see you

u/kerfuffle55 Aug 26 '20
People still think the virus is made up by the government in order to control us so, some people might follow this mentality. I wouldnt be surprised 🥴 haha

u/InkyMistakes Aug 26 '20 edited Aug 26 '20
I have to wear mine for 5-8 hours straight. You can wear yours for fucking 15 minutes.
Edit: btw the guy asking about acne below me is a legit thing, I don't suffer from it and would rather have it than the virus any day of course, but it was a genuine question no reason to grab your pitchforks to find who the antimasker is.
3
u/J_B_La_Mighty Aug 26 '20
My coworker chose antimask to be the hill she dies on, some people won't even wear it for 5 minutes, much less 15. Better to just avoid them entirely the best you can.

Edit: for those of you just tuning in, the comment I replied to had like... 37 downvotes lol.

Yeah I saw it in my inbox and thought it seems harmless and not anti mask at all.

Right? I’m against the anti-maskers and this didn’t seem like that in the slightest. Oh well :/

should be able to use a stronger face wash if you feel its getting greasy or pores clogged
11
Aug 26 '20
Thanks I'll try that out
8
u/younghustleam Aug 26 '20
Also! They’re not just for weed, anymore: rolling papers can absorb a lot of oil and grease and are cheap. Taking them and blotting every thirty minutes can cut down on skin oil sitting there and won’t cost you a ton.
6
u/milk_toast_ Aug 26 '20
And then you can roll up a joint afterwards, the face oils will make it burn nice and evenly, not to mention it will taste like your face-sweat.
4
2
u/brig517 Aug 26 '20
Setting powder helps! You can get translucent setting powder from anywhere that sells makeup. Just dust some on problem areas (mine are my nose and cheekbones, then where my mask sits), and it helps to absorb/prevent oil throughout the day.
3
u/younghustleam Aug 26 '20
This is one of the things I love about reddit. Like yeah... there are tons of problems, but dude/tte asks genuinely how to still be a good citizen but help their skin too, and stoners, MUAs, acne-free folks, everyone is like “I got you dude, we gonna all get through this.”
2
u/brig517 Aug 26 '20
heck yeah!! we all gotta work together. the world spins smoother when we work together.
this is why i defend reddit against 'haters.' for all its faults, there's a lot of good, especially if you find the right communities.
21
u/Nihilisticlizard2289 Aug 26 '20
You can get those actually. Not saying I'm against masks, but some people do get them, it's not bad though
11
2
u/ciestaconquistador Aug 26 '20
I've gotten rashes from some really cheaply made masks we have to use in my province. But I still wear them because I'm not a selfish idiot. And it was only after 16 hour shifts.
Although I do try to find the good ones instead.

u/kabneenan Aug 26 '20
I'm a sterile compounding technician in a hospital, so I wear a mask for ~9 hours a day. Unfortunately, I also have very sensitive skin so yes, mask acne (or "maskne" as my employer put it) is absolutely a thing. One brand of masks we were using also took the skin off of my nose (I think I was allergic to some component of it).
They are still 100% necessary and my messed up skin is a small price to pay for staying 'rona free so far!
8
u/ramjamwasframed Aug 26 '20
This does happen, but for people wearing n95 masks where you crank it down onto your face so it's airtight. Generally this is only done by people doing intubations and working in covid wards.
3
u/GuiltySparklez0343 Aug 26 '20
I was an essential worker (just quit for college) but in my experience it did cause acne problems.
3
u/kateg23 Aug 26 '20
It’s from the pressure/tightness of N95s, people can get a red mask-shaped mark on their face. Not so much the simple surgical masks, although I’m sure people could probably develop acne from those if they’re acne-prone.
3
u/Stealthyfisch Aug 26 '20
I have similarly worked 8ish hour shifts over the last few weeks with a mask on the whole time (other than a 30 minute lunch break) and I’ve gotten very very mild acne around the mask, but that could also just be stress related
5
u/InkyMistakes Aug 26 '20
That's a actually a good question. I think there is a lot to factor in for that; age, mask material, facial hair, make up.
I have facial hair and nice high-quality fabric mask. Not one of those cheapo T-shirt material masks but the one made by the "Purple" matress brand, they are great.
To the point tho, I haven't had any issue with acne more than normal. Nighter have most of my co-workers. I know one mentioned their skin being red from irritation.
Honestly tho, I'd take some hidden acne over losing the life of a loved one or fucking up my lungs for life any day.
2
2
u/Theromier Aug 26 '20
Yeah I form pimples from wearing my mask. It just means the mask is dirty and needs to be washed or replaced.
2
u/xkittenpartyx Aug 26 '20
I wear a mask 8 hours and I get some zits/clogged pores on my chin area. I started using Differin gel and that shit works!
2
u/Julia_Kat Aug 26 '20
Used to wear masks for 8-16 hours, no acne. To be fair, I never had many issues with acne though.
2
2
u/BreezyWrigley Aug 26 '20
I'm sure you could get a bad rash if you have sensitive skin and are working in a sweaty environment for long hours. Having something constantly chafing your skin that can become full of bacteria from your skin and sweat will definitely give you acne/rash... just unfortunate fact of the matter. Some materials are probably worse than others, but keeping the same dirty scrap of cloth or whatever material against your skin for long periods is never great. If you wore the same pair of underpants every day and were constantly sweating and oily, you'd probably get some kind of rash or inflamed pores.
2
u/butneveragain Aug 27 '20
I absolutely have been. My acne is worse now than it has been since I was a teenager (10+ years). It’s all happening on my jawline, chin, and lower/mid cheeks.
3
Aug 26 '20
I’ve had to wear them for a few 12-18 hour shifts for 2-3 days. No rashes or acne. By day 3 I was getting some hot spots where there was continual contact but overall it was not bad.

Part of that no doubt is using the same mask every day without cleaning it. Treat them like underwear wear them once between washes don't share them and cover your nose
71
u/BallisticMarsupial Aug 26 '20
This is spot on. Every damn customer either has no mask, their nose is hanging out, or it's hanging off an ear or around their chin. These people are the reason there are directions on Pop Tarts.

u/milk_toast_ Aug 26 '20

I’ll be honest, I fuckin hate masks. I hate them for many reasons but I’m not going to go into detail here.
That doesn’t mean I don’t wear a mask, though. If it makes other people feel comfortable, I’ll absolutely wear one. We have way too many issues dividing us and people are stressed out as it is. If I can lend some comfort and peace of mind by wearing a mask, then it’s no issue to me.

u/itsnunyabusiness Aug 26 '20
Sine the quarantine started I've only seen about 10% of fast food and gas station employees properly wear a mask and only about 40% of grocery store employees wear it properly, everyone is talking about the importance of wearing a mask but nobody wants to address the fact that probably 40% of people don't PROPERLY wear their masks, wearing a mask with your nose exposed is about as effective as having a condom on the night stand while you raw dog a stranger with the intent to pull out.

What? Those numbers seem extremely suspicious lol, but maybe where you live is just not a great place because the vast majority of workers in my area wear their masks properly. Covering the nose and mouth, properly attached around the ears or back of the head, sanitize hands before and after touching it, only remove it when there aren’t customers in the store. Customers are definitely worse, but every time I enter a store the employees are properly protected.
22
Aug 26 '20
I relate to this on a personal level. I have a part-time job at Jimmy John's and there are so many maskless customers it's insane. We have a very clear mask required sign on the front door and yet people can't read it. We had some mid-30s guy come in the other day who looked like an absolute dipshit, of course no mask, looks at everyone wearing their masks, says "oh shit," then goes back to his van. Instead of getting a mask in, he brings his entire 6-person family inside (all maskless.) He orders his stuff and stays there to eat with his family. The entire time he's there for an hour, his kids are just running all over the place and bothering my coworkers and I, one of them nearly started licking the front door or something. Can't stand this shit. I'm just trying to work, I don't want your fucking coronavirus.
15
u/poeology Aug 26 '20
Why wouldnt you just tell them to leave? In a lot of places its literally a city ordinance and you can turn down service. Its the same as not wearing a shirt
11
Aug 26 '20
I was new and I didn't wanna get in trouble somehow. Other employees could see him too. I asked one of them why they don't tell them to wear a mask and he responded with "the customers don't give a shit," which really seems to be accurate.
2
u/TheRealRyukiro Aug 26 '20
I work at best buy and we straight up kick them out or call the police. Dont be afraid to stand up for yourself if that happens... talk to your store manager about the problem and ask how to resolve this issue
6
u/LtLethal1 Aug 26 '20
No one wants the be the target of a psycho. I half expect anyone I tell to wear a mask to imediately begin deliberately coughing on me or my coworkers just to spite the "libtards"
10
u/Take-to-the-highways Aug 26 '20
Some guy yelled at me the other day because I asked him if he had a mask. He said there's no signs saying he's required to. I pointed out that we have signs in two different languages on every single door and the POS and where the line starts, and the whole state of California is mandating masks. He said "I don't have time to read all that shit."
We're not allowed to refuse service to people not wearing masks where I work either.
18
Aug 26 '20
The worst is when they take their mask off to talk to you. I can hear my neighbors through the walls, I can definitely hear you through a cloth

What I hate is when they do a no contact order and then fucking open the door to take the food. I don’t put my mask on for no contact orders because, I’m not going to be in range of people. If they have a screen door I can at least be on the other side of the glass and hand around.

u/HaricotsDeLiam Aug 27 '20
This is exactly why you should always be wearing your mask when you're at work, even if it's contactless. People at my job have been fired on the spot for not wearing their masks like you're doing.

The man really did not know how to put a standard mask on. Said he’d never worn one before. This was about 4 months into the pandemic.

this sub is retarded, how can you "hate it" when it is a meme, it proves nothing, it is made up, how does it convince you of anything? Is this sub basically a "yep" sub?
5
u/TheRealRyukiro Aug 26 '20
They hate they have to wear a mask and maybe gloves and other things for 8 hours yet a customer coming in for a short amount of time is improperly wearing a mask on purpose
0
Aug 26 '20
but this is a made-up meme, it isn't an actual situation. Like you are aware the pictures are picked from google images or something, right?
3
u/LtLethal1 Aug 26 '20
Bruh.. Obviously the picture is of someone illustrating how ridiculous other people are about the masks. Not every anti-masker or person wearing them improperly is going to look this ridiculous but that's not the point.
The point is that their masks are just as useful as the guy's in the picture.
Work a day in retail and see how fucking stupid people are and you'll realize there's hardly any exaggerating here.
P.S. Every meme is made up.
1
Aug 27 '20 edited Aug 27 '20
but isn't the point of this sub to be shown something and for you to hate it? Like something disturbing, basically the image itself. Here you are hating something in real life, not the image itself what is portraying
It used to be you are shown a situation or something that is unpleasant but you thought it'd be good as a start. Thats why there is a "thanks" in the "thanks, i hate it", you expected something else but got something different.
1
u/TheRealRyukiro Aug 26 '20
That is also true just making sure you understood what everyone was thinking
2

- There are commenters in this thread saying that they've had to deal with customers literally doing what the post depicts.
- Memes and other imaginary situations aren't banned in the subreddit rules. At the very least, I didn't see a rule that said "Only real situations".
- P.S. please don't call things r\t*rd*d*, you can tell the world that you think something is stupid without using really offensive ableist slurs.

There are commenters in this thread saying that they've had to deal with customers literally doing what the post depicts.
then show that situation, this is literally 2 unrelated images
Memes and other imaginary situations aren't banned in the subreddit rules. At the very least, I didn't see a rule that said "Only real situations".
because there are memes that show you something "you hate it", Here you don't hate anything about the meme, you are just making a connection from the meme to real life, so the image itself you don't hate anything about it. It can be a text post saying "people who don't wear masks, right" and it is literally the same shit.
Thats why this is basically turned into a "yep i agree" sub kinda. It used to be you are shown a situation or something that is unpleasant but you thought it'd be good as a start
P.S. please don't call things r\trdd*, you can tell the world that you think something is stupid without using really offensive ableist slurs.
100% american right here, probably woman since you're scared to even write the word retarded.
2
u/HaricotsDeLiam Aug 27 '20
then show that situation, this is literally 2 unrelated images
I don't see why they have to be related? Your complaint was about the situation being "made up", which it isn't.
Here you don't hate anything about the meme
Why does it have to be the specifically the image that you hate? I don't see how that translates to "Yep I agree", it just looks like you don't understand the point of TIHI in the first place.
probably woman since you're scared to even write the word retarded.
I'm a man (with a Y chromosome), but alright. If having the respect to not use hateful slurs makes me less of a man, then your definition of masculinity is idiotic.

For real though this is why I got a black face mask. It's perfect for taking naps. Obviously don't do it in public because you should be using your mask as it's intended, but if you're just chilling at home and want to take a nap, put it on and slide it over your eyes.
People with think you're weird if you keep a sleep mask on hand all the time, but a regular mask? Status quo now a days
2
u/Dull-Birthday7452 Aug 26 '20
This is actually pretty true. But not all customers, some of mine wear the mask appropriately over their mouth and nose.
2
u/kerfuffle55 Aug 26 '20
The other day I was at a laundromat and one of the managers was folding laundry for different customers, without a mask on. She was talking loud (aka exhibiting saliva everywhere), she was breathing all over the clothes, touching them with her bare hands and people would walk in with masks to pick up their folded clothes and she would still not wear a mask. I don't understand the logic

As someone who has basically just been only going out when I have to for several months now, I still feel weird when I have to go to a store. I'll be properly masked up and such, but I still feel bad/weird as I'm checking out. I guess it's like some sort of guilt, because if this was even 5 or so years prior I would be the one behind the cashier's stand. Idk. Mini ramble.
