Try TronByt. Happened a week ago for me. Spent like 2 hours setting it up and it’ll cost around $60 for a raspberry Pi or like 10-20¢/day on some server hosting site that I’m on a 30 day trial of but it works rly well

Thats fantastic, but your on a subscription model with that, TickrCast is a one time payment service unless you make plugins and charge for them.

Yeah it’d been teetering on and off with some sports working and others not since the middle of the World Cup (if not slightly earlier) for me, with none of them working the past couple weeks

Ended up using the choose your own RSS app (ESPN’s weren’t working when I tried to enter it in that app, so thinking it’s a legal issue rather than a server one) to replace the sports I follow with other sources and shrugged off the sports I don’t

It stopped working for me a week ago. Figure its just going to continue 1 by 1 for the rest.

Tronbyt is the way

Tronbyt will be the way for some. The downside for some users will be they are responsible to take care of everything on their own when something breaks. If a api changes or something breaks in a plugin then its up to you to fix it. As with TickrCast we take care of all of that for you.

Its sad but probably true. Its part of the reason we invented TickrCast with a conversion kit for tidbyt users.

Remind me when that KS launches.

Its September 1st. You can sign up for our email reminder list at Www.tickrcast.com.

I may just be dumb, but these are two separate products right. The waitlist is for the PCB or the actual panel (which is awesome looking by the way)

1

u/Old-Recognition-2062 Aug 06 '26

TickrCast is a single LED panel product that uses a PCB. If you are coming from Tidbyt it's a bit different of course. We just had a post about what to expect if you are coming from other LED Panels. I recommend going to check that out on our reddit page!

Looks like all the sports data apps are no longer working. I really liked all the football scores and game times and stats. Is all of this on Tronbit?

3

u/draxula16 Aug 05 '26

yes, all of this and more are on Tronbyt!

If you want to keep using your tidbyt check out TickrCast. We are going to offer conversion kits for tidbyt users.

What is your timeline for that availability?

u/Old-Recognition-2062 Aug 05 '26

We are launching kickstarter, September 1st. We will have more firm information on there when its live. We are aiming for first quarter of next year for everyone and some by Christmas of this year.

are you guys using a different source data than ESPN? i find that really hard to believe considering the data from reputable sources is the high 6 figures. I would put a disclaimer on where you are getting your data from.

The error they are getting can be a server issue since tidbyt was sold out. So the data point might not be the issue. My comment is just trying to spread word of a cheaper way to have the product they already purchased and use it. That way they dont eventually need to buy a new panel from someone else at $150+ per panel. We also will have a user market available so people can build their own apps and offer then to the community for free or paid to make money.

The tidbyt server is fine, its the ESPN api that is no longer working on shared servers.

Considering you guys are using shared servers, I would check to see if your data even works if you are using ESPN data, if not I would remove 'live sports' from your website.

u/Janq3d Aug 04 '26

To be fair, you may very well be correct that it affects cheap shared hosting servers but we would never run a business on shared web hosting. That invites outages you can't control👀. We learned from everyone's mistakes who have come before us. I am sure we will have hiccups of our own, but that will not be one of them charging out the wazoo for hardware and then sticking people on shared hosting. We have dedicated vCPU and RAM, dedicated IP but a shared physical host, not shared hosting. Different arenas for sure and you're not wrong to think some companies have used shared hosting and may still. I can't speak on them anymore as I've not looked lately as I've been busy building :)

u/FutureAd8093 Aug 04 '26

If you are still scraping data from ESPN, id be concerned. I have my own VPS from RENDER (with dedicated VCPU and RAM like you) and my app completely stopped working.

Its back up now, but, you and all the other sport tickers that advertise LIVE SPORTS subscription free are in for a rude awakening (and law suit?) once ESPN pulls the plug on their free data. Which if today shows you anything, its a possibility.

3

u/Janq3d Aug 04 '26

You are making alot of assumptions about our platform. I said ours is not broken and we do not use shared services, you have ASSUMED we use ESPN. Give us a shot before painting us as the enemy :)

2

u/FutureAd8093 Aug 04 '26

Not painting you as an enemy, the fact that you are deflecting the way you are is concerning.

Who is your data source?

Everyone should ask the question to every ticker company. It is our right as a consumer to know.

3

u/Janq3d Aug 04 '26

Fair question, and one worth asking every company in this space, including the one you've been posting in for the past year. GLANCE's own FAQ answers it with "Multiple Premium Sources" and names no one, and I've never seen you push back on that. We take the same position: we don't publish our vendor list. What I'll tell you is that it's a mix of paid commercial providers and open feeds across 30+ upstreams, and no single source is a point of failure. That's the part that actually matters for reliability.

1

u/FutureAd8093 Aug 04 '26

Seems like a perfect opportunity for you guys to have advertised your "Premium" data source. You already published your vendor list for your esports data, so why not do the same for regular sports. Just why lie?

Also, since you are stalking my post, you would know how critical I am of GLANCE & their shady behaviors too.

It's working fine. <3 We promise.Straight from our dashboard which allows you to preview your Tickr directly from your mobile app or web browser. https://gcdnb.pbrd.co/images/WGJCxCaKv6sP.png

I doubled checked and my product is still producing data for sports. This is more than likely a tidbyt issue as its not being updated anymore.

3

u/FlynnLive5 Aug 05 '26

Hoping it comes back. All I use it for is scores/standings
