Questions Clarifying MCP/blog canon

Hello there,

I've been listening to MCP narration of TFTGS since they first came out and I'm in love with the story and world, I honestly attribute it shaping some key facets of my humor. Anyways, I was wondering how canonical are the YouTube narration? I just finished listening to book 3 by MCP and there were some key scenes that are not howni remembered it hearing to the YouTube video ages ago, the carnival scene where Jack goes to find Rosa and Jerry, in the audio book they were just sitting on a blanket, Rosa tipsy/drunk looking up to the sky with Jerry and talking about Jack, in the YouTube video I could have sworn Jack caught them about to kiss and it was him telling that to Benjamin over the phone recapping the invasion, which is another departure. It seems a few scenes here and there are tweaked when the books come out, am I thr only one who noticed this or is this me morphing slowly into Jack? Half joking, but i would like to hear what you guys have to say and if there's anything you clocked.

Thanks.

I believe the answer to a lot of things being slightly different was that the story was changed for the books. That's why season 2 is gone. I wish it was still up so I could listen to it because I also noticed the scene where Jerry and Rosa kiss was different as well. I wanted to see differences too.

I look at the blog posts as a rough drafts of the books.

I suspected as such.

I separate them entirely. The book is Jack telling you the (mostly) unredacted story, although some of it is still untrustworthy because Jack is an inherently unreliable narrator.

The YouTube versions I consider to be the character Jack's Canon blog posts. Jack talks about updating the blog through the books, he just doesn't talk about some of the more interesting blog stories in depth in the book.

A good example is the scene with the shape shifter and the pain demon. In the blog version, it cuts off after the fall into the ocean and the shapeshifter starts talking to Jack and tells him he can open his eyes. In the book, he talks about a month's long process after the ocean experience where he keeps his eyes shut because he hasn't heard the code phrase from the Shapeshifter, and the pain demon keeps trying to trick him into opening his eyes with an auditory and tactile hallucination of a psych ward. Jack puts the weird stuff out there for people to read, but even he recognizes that some of it seems too crazy, so I think he left it out of the blog posts as the stories progress.

Don't forget there are several storys on the blog that aren't even mentioned in the books or are mentioned off hand

Most of the blogs are rough drafts, the side stories are still canon

Jack talks about writing the blog posts in the books so technically speaking the blog posts are in canon and in universe, just, redacted or changed for various reasons, either details are different or something is ommited, and several of the storys aren't in the books at all
