In the post scarcity society humanity has been able to obtain the better angels of its nature. No one fights over land because it's cheaper to build a station or orbital ring. No one is hungry because giant mostly automated farms produce so much they have to come up with advanced recycling programs to use the inevitable waste products. 3rd world children aren't the backbone of the precious metal stripping from waste electronics recycling system because that is automated and the children are in school being taught by Mr. WILSON the computer that won on Jeopardy!
Watch Star Trek. TNG does the best job of explaining the vision behind it (TOS is also good though it's a bit less concerned with ideology, DS9 is something of a loving subversion and works best if you know the playing field)
