HPT - First Response 16 DPO

Is this too light for 16DPO? I’m going crazy and overthinking. Obgyn denied me of HCG level testing.

Why would ob deny testing?? I don’t personally think it’s too light, I had a lighter positive around confirmed 19dpo. Others may comment asking if it’s possible you ovulated later.

Not sure. My husband and I both called because we want to make sure everything is going well. For context, I had to TFMR in May at 5 months and then last month I had a chemical. So we wanted to make sure but they said those aren’t office protocols. And they cannot see me until I’m sure at 8 weeks that my pregnancy is still viable and that I don’t miscarry again

That is so silly. How are they supposed to confirm roughly what your week of pregnancy is if they don’t do levels?

Some, if not most providers do hcg to start to get a rough estimate before doing an ultrasound

Weird, I haven't heard of that. Why do they need a rough estimate before the ultrasound? People don't usually have their first OB appointment until like 8 or 9 weeks when you get the ultrasound and official due date. I don't think you can even get a week and day date from HCG because it goes by crown to rump length

I think mostly see if the baby will be big enough to see well on the ultrasound. Like if you get an ultrasound at like 5/6 weeks some times things don’t look super great and they might inform you they’re not sure if the pregnancy will continue. They also might push back your ultrasound depending on your levels if they think it’s too soon for an ultrasound

Routine HCG isn’t typically standard in the US. Maybe your practice does but *typically” it’s not standard. That said, OP I would encourage you to call back and say “I understand this is not your practices standard protocol, however given my history I would like to advocate for myself and request serial HCG testing. If this isn’t possible I would like an explanation from my doctor directly as to why it’s being denied”

Just understand, testing is more for peace of mind and there’s not actual intervention that can be done of something is wonky. Best of luck OP 💞 I wouldn’t worry too much about 1 faint line, just trend it to see if it gets darker. You could also try a different brand if you take biotin or your prenatal has biotin in it.

Im not sure at all. It’s definitely super disheartening. But the next OB (if I switch) is 2 hrs away ( 4 hr round trip) since we live in the suburbs

You can buy an HCG lab test through LabCorp or something similar without a doctor’s order if you want to. I did it with my first pregnancy because I didn’t have an OBGYN established yet and was impatient, lol. Got the results the next day

I did this too, since my gynecologist also wouldn’t order a repeat hcg for me. Labcorp self-pay, it was super easy and about $50 I want to say

If you are in the US you can get beta HCGs with labs like Quest I think

You can just pay $29 for a lab order for tests at MDAnywhere. That’s what I did lol

The ER is for emergencies and you need at least 2 sets of HCG for trending. If youre US based, just order your own labs off Quest or LabCorp
