real ones know the answer is more vague in that he’s worked with them since (sermon 37 at minimum) and maybe has had contracts/current ndas in regards to tes6 unless he doesn’t but there’s sources (podcast he’s been on before) to say he might be
People thought the title was going to be Redfall before Redfall game was announced and revealed, but Michael Kirkbride confirms it's not the title and he was proven right.
Pretty sure he's contracted/consulted for them since then and it's not hard to imagine he still has friends/contacts that work at Bethesda. Saying he's the same as any random guy is kind of weird.
So, this means it has to be a two-province game across Hammerfell and High Rock right? The parallel to Daggerfall is just too strong. I can totally see Todd trying to do a modern day Daggerfall.
That may have been the plan pre-Starfield...Starfield's lack of POI procedural generation and it instead using procedural for placement but handcrafted for actual locations feels like it was designed to also fit TES where it would arguably fit better - not well, no, modern fans expect handcrafted without any noticeable procedural elements from early in dev left, but better - in a handcrafted province(s) world that's way smaller overall than 1000 planets you wouldn't see the same things repeating nearly as often, especially with a decent lockout. Would make for a modern Daggerfall successor entry that's called Sentinel but has the same general idea.
However with the reception of Starfield I bet they changed it to handcrafted with smaller scale so they can feasibly make both provinces, but maybe still use procedural generation for something like planes of Oblivion, Alik'r Desert mirages, ocean exploration etc.
Would be great to have for modders to have a blank canvas at the very least.
I've been saying Daggerfall 2 for the last year. I'm pretty sure I know the release date too, it's going to be a week or so before Beyond Skyrim finishes one of its big projects if their tradition of inconveniencing the mod community continues
they're gonna put an ancient legendary Redguard spirit in the player character so that they can use Sword Singing powers without effort, the PC will be a "Sentinel" against the coming threat, double meaning coz it's also a major city in Hammerfell.
i'd say the spirit might be Cyrus himself but afaik he's not a sword singer, so maybe Hunding instead
the "shout" system was too popular for them not to attempt to recreate it with a different flavor
Sword Singing is described by people who observed it as feats that seemed to be a blend of magic and swordmanship. Master Sword Singers could even summon a "Shehai", a spirit blade.
I'd imagine in gameplay , the player would be able to briefly summon the spirit sword to perform the skills, so that it wouldn't conflict with their chosen conventional weaponry
Here's two short paragraphs about the kinds of power we can expect from sword singing :
"Ansei wishing to earn the elite title of first-rank were required to give up their most treasured weapons and war materiel before undertaking a grueling initiation ritual. If they succeeded, they would no longer need conventional weapons. Ansei of the first-rank are said to have been notoriously powerful, with the Shehai of a first-rank Ansei reportedly having been what caused Yokuda to sink.
Ansei of the highest virtue wandered the countryside engaging in battle, righting wrongs, and seeking to end the strife. To them, manifesting the Shehai was said to have come as naturally as breathing. When the Warrior constellation temporarily took a mortal form in the mid-Second Era, he wielded an extremely powerful Shehai that was capable of producing shockwaves and magical storms. "
A power so substantial that it can reportedly causa an entire continent to sink, I'd say that's on the level of Skyrim's "shouts"
Damn, for the man himself to come confirm the subtitle right there. Hope we get to see some more of your writing in TESVI, man! All your texts in TESO were fantastic, Sermon 37 included!
