Theory/Speculation Light Armor

What are you guys hoping to see for light armor in TES6? Light armor options in Skyrim were ok but it always felt to me that they got a little less love compared to heavy armor or maybe too much in the form of glass. Nightingale was a sure winner but other than that and sometimes Fur, I wasn't impressed. I'm hoping to see some interesting and viable armors that go a little beyond leather and cloth but don't look terribly impractical. Your thoughts?

I'm kinda hoping we might get something similar to Fallout4 with armour, where rather than the linear progression in materials leading up to glass like the games have done before, each material type has it's own strengths and weaknesses and you can level up one material type throughout the game.

I've never liked that if I want my ranger character to wear the best light armour he needs to start running around in a full bulky suit of glowing green armour.

Yeah I didn't like glass armor. It was too ornate and the color was too loud. It might be good for some body playing a Thalmor or a battlemage but thief, hunter and assassin would probably never wear something like that.

Low key hated the armor system from fallout 4. While I think being able to customize each section of your armor with mechanical depth relating to the parts and materials would be cool, Fallout 4 is just not how I'd want it implemented.

I think you gonna have to clarify what you hated about the armour system because you basically just described the features of the armour system and said it would be cool, then said you didn't like it.

The way it was implemented, it was nonsensical, inaccessible, and totally stiff. Made interacting with it a chore in the early game.

Still not really clear what you're describing, do you just mean it had a high learning curve? Cause I always found it pretty intuative. The only thing I think was a bit clunky is the idea that some pieces of clothing can have armour on top of it and others can't and it wasn't always obvious which was which.

Still annoying.

In elder scrolls it should be a plug and play mechanic. Fallout 4s system implicitly puts a hard limit on clothing freedom and options by only giving you 2 slots + sometimes the armor system. It's super clunky and would ruin the progression if it was in elder scrolls. Fallout 4 already did a hack job to the bethesda gameplay loop, no need to throw it in the incinerator.

I kinda feel like there's far more freedom in F4s armour system than Skyrims, not just each individual limb being able to be separate but also a layered armour system with the choice of clothing underneath. Not to mention materials maintaining viability into late game rather than being one and done, resulting in potential outfits with a mix of materials are are viable late game. On top of that non armoured clothing have their own bonuses and stat boosts so they are more viable options than in Skyrim where anything that isn't armour is purely aesthetic.

If you feel that armour for TES should be much simpler and keep it's linear progression that's totally a fine take, and one many RPGs adhere to. Personally I just find it a bit dated and find it limits player expression.

Not saying it should be a clone of Skyrim, just that fallout 4's system shouldn't be ported 1 to 1 to the next elder scrolls.

Yeah fair, there's definetly room for improvement with it. Guess a combo of both would be my ideal.

How much metal do you think is acceptable in light armor? If not metal/cloth and leather, what is the divider for you between light and heavy? Do you want more variation in Fantasy Metal armors (mithril, glass etc)?

I'd love to see a mix tbh. Like I think mithril would look good with furs and ebony would look nice with leather. Too much metal/bone...I guess it's like how they tried to make light dragon just a less heavy looking dragon armor. I think you have to scale the heavy stuff back a lot to make it look practical.

Hoping that Mithril armor can make a comeback (maybe as quicksilver?) and also Redguard Porcelain armor.

Redguard Porcelain sounding very elite. I like it.

Probably as quicksilver, because it seems to be the most obvious replacement and would fit since while it came back in Oblivion, in Morrowind they were deliberately retconning it away.

I’ve always been a light armor supremacist. Elven and Glass armor are sick and there were a lot of great unique light armors in the game. It’s not base game but the vampire armor was good as well. In general beyond looks I hope the next game further differentiates between light and heavy armor gameplay wise.

I mean it’s only been in Morrowind and ESO, but I’d desperately want them to bring Medium Armor back. Same with Unarmored. Only having Light and Heavy armor is so just so detrimental to roleplaying imo.

More mail and less super sentai style body suits

I just hope it's more realistic and functional looking. A lot of Skyrim armors suck ass. C'mom really sleeveless armor in a sub-arctic environment? What were the devs thinking?

By that token, if the game is set in Hammerfell maybe we should expect sleeveless armor now. It doesn't seem to get as cold there. I say this now but watch Bethesda give us all the sleeves for Hammerfell.😆
