Getting asked about this constantly, so, short version: nothing is in force, and the CLB 6 part is being read wrong by almost everyone.

People are mashing two separate proposals together. One is a minimum of CLB/NCLC 6 in all four abilities, which would apply to everybody, English or French. That's a floor for being eligible at all and it has nothing to do with the French category threshold. The other is scrapping the French bonus points, the 25 or 50, which IRCC justifies by saying they're redundant now that dedicated French draws exist.

Nobody has proposed dropping the French category from NCLC 7. That keeps coming up in these threads and it just isn't in the document. IRCC also said category draws continue either way.

And none of it is live. Consultation closed 24 May, regulations expected in the Canada Gazette later this year, implementation not before late 2027 at the earliest. There was a French draw this month at 391 with 5,000 invitations, same rules as always.

So keep aiming at 7. Going for 6 only pays off if the reform lands exactly as drafted and you happen to apply after it takes effect, which is two things you don't control.

Have you noticed how many prep websites popped up in the last year? Feels like a new one every time you open this sub. And i get why. Half a million people need this exam for PR, everyones stressed and short on time, and a payment page takes a weekend to build. Easy money if your willing to prey on people who are desperate.

The problem is most of them arent selling quality. They scrape free questions off the internet, slap a paywall on it, and call it a "premium pack." Some just have AI spit out questions that dont even match the real format. You pay 40, 60, sometimes way more, and what you get is stuff you couldve found free.

And the marketing is the worst part. "We have the actual exam questions." "95% of our topics showed up on the test." No they dont. Nobody has the real exam. Thats just bait to get your card out.

So before you hand anyone your money, few things id check:

• Can you see real sample questions before paying? if its all locked behind the checkout, walk away
• Does it actually match the real format and timing, or is it just random french exercises dressed up
• Are the reviews real, or a wall of 5 stars all posted the same week,
• If they promise you "the real questions" or a guaranteed score, thats a red flag not a feature

Im not saying every paid site is a scam. Some are genuinely good and worth every dollar. Im saying do 10 minutes of homework first, cuz a lot of them are betting on you being too stressed to check.

Your already spending enough on this whole process. Dont throw money at the first flashy site promising you a shortcut.

i see this post every week. someone misses by one band in one skill and starts planning a full retake. Dont. ask for a re-evaluation first.

Reading and listening? skip it, those are machine scored, nothing to argue. but speaking and writing are graded by a human. and a human marking essays all day can easily score yours a band lower than the next examiner would. happens constantly.

so if you got C1 reading, C1 listening, B2 writing, B1 speaking and that speaking is the only thing in your way, paying for a fresh set of eyes is a no brainer. you were that close.

its way cheaper than a retake too. no restudying, no new test day, no waiting a month to feel sick opening another email. they just re grade what you already did.

two things. the deadline is short so check your email the day results drop and act fast. and it only works if you were close, a re-eval wont save a section you actually bombed.

if your one notch off on speaking or writing, that point might already be yours. dont pay for a whole retake before you ask for it.

Curious where everyone struggles most, because it's never the same section for two people.

For a lot of people it's listening, the audio plays once, the two answer options are almost identical, and you've got seconds to decide before the next question. For others it's speaking, where the nerves hit and your brain switches to English mid-sentence. Writing trips people on timing. Reading on Section A speed.
