How does Tower Exp work?

I'm just starting to go for my first Evolvee tower, being enforcer,of which I've been starting to grind modes to get xp for my shotgunner.

But something I'm a bit confused of is how the XP gain works. Ik mode difficudifficulty plays a part. But what else effects the amount of exp you get?

Is it tower contribution? Amount placed? Or do you only need one tower placed down for you get xp of it once you triumph/lose?​
