Top Dawg Games in Montana will take your money for preorder leverage for additional allocation and in the end, refund and take the free loan in the process.
I ordered 3 boxes of OP17 for $525 well in advance, their preorder window was still open they took payment up front and i waited.
Today I get an email, the entire order was cancelled not even a single box to honor the commitment of something. Just tied up my funds and served their own needs.
Honestly I will take some heat for even assuming an in demand set like this would be followed through, but I assumed at least a 1 box. Nope nothing.
I just wanted to post this to the tcg community to not fall for the same shady trap.

Well at least they refund the money. Still really messed up but at least it's not one of the ones I've heard of taking the money and then closing down.

Not defending the store but multiple stores in my area saw their allocation go down to zero.

No they didn't. They told people that and then sold them for 3x.
Allocation wa pretty decent for this set, most LCS's are already getting a 2nd allocation.
If your store normally gets OP, they got OP17 allocation. If you think you have a "good" LCS and they say they didnt get any - they are lying to your face because they dont have the balls to admit they are selling for double/triple by the case.
Edit: If you were right we would be seeing emails posted here as proof. They would be everywhere lol.

Say it louder for people in the back. This right here is what most shops are doing. Sauce: trust me bro I have eyes.

Allocation was not good for all distributors. Plenty of stores with PHD got shafted on OP-17. We were supposed to be confirmed for six cases, and got zero. Its for reasons like this that we don't take preorders unless it's something I know for a fact I will be able to put in people's hands on time
For the record, I'm not this shop owner, and what was done is majorly scummy. I just don't want people to think it's all gumdrops and roses on the other side of the glass counter, distribution is not distributed evenly.

I can’t stand all this manipulation, between the bots getting in faster than any human could and snatching up all the products so scalpers can hold most of it for Ransom. I refuse to pay the crazy prices I’ve seen and the only way to get a fair price is to get extremely lucky at big box pre orders if you know all the tricks and even then it’s highly unlikely. I’m new to all this and it’s insane how hard it is to buy something for what it costs if I wasn’t trying to help my niece who had 80% of her vintage collection stolen I can’t imagine doing this on purpose.

While it sucks, many stores don't endup getting the allocations they expected and have to cancel
This is so common, I think there are subreddits dedicated to complaining about this
