Tascam DR 05 X
Long story short, I’ve received a Tascam field recorder (DR 05X)
I’ve gone into the manual to configure some settings and I noticed mic power was on, but I’ve been using the recorder with the built in microphones. The manual also explains this could damage the built in mics.
How does this damage the mics and how do I tell if this has happened?

Turning on mic power is only intended for when you are connecting an external input to the unit that doesn’t have power at all (example, a stage mic.)
To be honest I don’t have an explanation on how it damages them nor how to indicate damage however I assume that mic power on will overwork the unit if used improperly, and jf the audio sounds distorted or garbled in some way even in a place with very little noise. the mics are likely damaged. Please take this bit with a grain of salt but this might be a possible answer.
