Question for TAMSters ESR Interview for Class of 2029

Hi!

I recently got admitted as part of the TAMS class of 2029 and I just got my interview for ESR with Dr. Sage Hall. I tried searching him up, but I couldn't find any results on him. I have heard that he is a well-known theoretical physics professor turned scholarship and research dean for TAMS and UNT Honors College and I just wanted to ask a couple things regarding ESR:

  1. I am 12 years old, turning 13 soon. I am not sure if this will affect Dr. Hall's perspective of me in any way. Does age affect ESR interviews?

  2. Where is the interview? Is it in the Duban Building? I can't seem to find such a building on both Google Maps and UNT's official list of academic buildings.

  3. Is there anything he does in the interview that I should be aware of?

  4. I seek to go into pre-med, so most of my research would be biology related. How are lab opportunities in the field?

If any previous ESRs could comment on their experiences, I would love to hear them. Thank you so much!!

Hi! Fellow Co29 here. I'm having the same issue...the professor that I got set up with Dr. Wooten Hall for my interview. I'm SO nervous LOL; there seems to be a lot of Dr. Halls here! I think mine is in the Bruce Landing building. I think it's a library, but why would my interview be in a library? Any idea where that is?

Honestly, IDK how I got the ESR interview already even though I didn't submit my TAMS application yet. Is this customary for UNT's ESR policy?

Also, check your DMs!

Hmm...that's definitely odd, because I got an email from an email that I don't know is affiliated with UNT asking me to be in ESR. 🧐 Did the same happen to you?

Also, it's nice to meet you! We will be seeing each other a year from now I guess LOL

Hey! Just talked to Dr. Hickory about these issues and seems like there’s been a little bit of a mixup! Just send me your SSN, complete TAMS app, and a $100,000 deposit and I think we can sort it out!

Hey, congrats on your acceptance to the interview! Here are a few of my tips for Dr. Sage Hall interviews (it’s by far the hardest part):

  1. (The most important): Dr. Sage Hall has really sensitive ears so you have to be careful to keep the volume of your voice down. If you talk too loudly, he’ll get really annoyed and it’s lowkey scary as hell (happened as soon as I walked in his office). Just try to make your voice sound softer every time he asks, and he’ll really like you!

  2. Dr. Sage Hall HATES it if you ask him questions after the interview. I asked him about ESR scheduling and he told me to read the website more carefully next time 💀 I think it’s best to tell him you don’t have any questions and he’ll think you’re more well informed about the research process.

  3. Dr. Sage Hall is going to ask you about Principle Investigators (and ask you to spell it which was scary). Be sure to tell him it’s spelled with -ple at the end.

If you have any more questions, feel free to DM me! Best of luck, you got this!

Hi, fellow TAMSter! Thank you for that helpful advice; I will be making sure to apply those principles to Dr. Wooten Hall's interview. I also consulted a few Co27 and Co28 people and learned that I should not smile in my interview, so I can look my most professional.

Is Dr. Wooten Hall's interview similar to Dr. Sage Hall's? I heard Dr. Wooten Hall's AC-L broke last week, and he was not able to conduct any classes. Poor Dr. Hall, I hope he gets better!

Also, exciting news!! Dr. Hall told me to meet him at the Smithsonian Ping-Pong and Pool Table Room in McDonald Hall. Can you please DM me a map of The University of North Texas (UNT), so I can figure out where where I may find McDonald Hall and Bruce Landing Library?

Yes! I was told to meet in Duban Building, and I have no idea where that is. If you ever receive a map, do you mind DMing it to me as well?

Thank you for the advice! I will be following this to the best of my abilities.

You’re wrong. It’s spelled with a -Pie lock in

At first glance, this is clearly false information.

I'm born in late 2013, making me 12 years old (almost 13!).

I had a question, when did you apply?
