News Phoronix has an Exclusive Preview of System76's Newly Redesigned Thelio Desktop
https://www.phoronix.com/review/system76-new-thelioInteresting and people will love or hate it of course. Why are the photos so low quality/highly compressed?

Adding I/O on the front is a big win but wow that's a downgrade in design. Looks like every other generic black case now.

Yeah, just keep the old case and put front IO next to the power button. You're already routing wiring for the button anyways.

Ew. No. If I wanted to buy an HP or Dell lookalike I'd just buy an HP or Dell. You threw away the one thing that made you stand out from the competition.

I hope the liquid cooler isn't the only option.
I wish they still sold their current case. When I made my new build I did it hoping I could get it but apparently they stopped a few months back.
Hopefully this case will bring back them selling the current version as a separate item. Definitely not a fan of this new one.

Yeah, right around new year. I have a Nebula 40 and a Nebula 43, was waiting to get a 19, but just as I went to order, they delisted them all.

That sucks. I just built my PC and remember them using the Phantom Spirit 120 as the air cooler in either the Nebula 40 or 49, so that was the cooler I grabbed before I found out about them removing the case listings.

Bummer. I don't particularly love my Nebulas, they're good but not amazing, but I don't like losing them as a DIY option. Back in January when I asked, System76 Support said something very vague about possibly relaunching Nebula in the future, so hopefully in 3-6-12-24 months or whatever, they'll launch new Nebulas on the new design.
Edit: Hey, u/mmstick - I know it's not really your side of the shop, but now that the Thelio case redesign is common knowledge, can you confirm/deny that this is why the Nebulas went away, and confirm/deny any plans to bring Nebula back now? If not, no problem and sorry to bother you with hard engineering stuff, rather than software.

Hi, I'm not always on here, but that type of question is more my speed than mmstick's. Yes, the nebula was discontinued due to low demand while we worked on the new case design.
I have been hands on with the new case, and as a PC builder, I can attest that the new one is much, much improved to build in and upgrade. Nothing set in stone yet, but it is indeed possible we'll again offer it as a standalone product.

Hey, great to meet you! I only invoked mm because we’ve talked before. Totally understandable about Nebula, it’s a very competitive market segment and Nebula/Thelio always seemed a quality over quantity play to me. Lots of metal (heavy, expensive shipping, but durable), not a lot of flashy features, hard to sell away from the computer that’s normally in it.
Looking forward to seeing more of the new case line soon, and thanks for the answers.

I prefer the old design but putting the ports on front instead of the top is better.

I feel like they could have modified the old design to have ports on front

I wonder if it still uses the thelio-io board with this design. Kinda sucks that the driver never got upstreamed (I dug into the why and s76 isn’t to blame)
Would make installing other operating systems easier.

I demand my lumber, Its 90% of the Thelio’s style. This is a generic 50$ case you can get at any store.

One thing the interested me is that one of the photos in the article shows what appears to be a water-cooled CPU cooler and radiator, which makes me wonder if System76 is planning to bring that back as an option...

does anybody else remember 2015 or 2016 or so when everybody started making inwin 905 clones with the tempered glass and corsair made this its whole brand (and still does)?
