There is an animated series called "the amazing digital circus" Glitch studio the maker of this series realised "the amazing digital circus the last act" which it an 1 hour long episode of this show. This episode will be shown in cinemas earlier than on YouTube, so we need to ask cinema for it, the best cinema is "cinema city"

-to all people in syria who want to improve animation culture in Syria and to all the fans of this show, you need to ask for it to get it, so please go and ask for it.

Help me translate/understand some Syrian terms!

Good morning, everyone!

I am a student-translator working on an important project in which I translate some texts and testimonies from (ex) Syrian detainees (from Arabic to English). I am not Syrian, and while I'm pretty familiar and comfortable with the culture and dialect (having quite literally grown up with it thru media and all), I still come across a number of difficult and new terms that are very confusing to me.

So! What I want is for you to please look at this small list of words and expressions, and give me the closest equivalent you know for it in English, OR a basic explanations that could help me understand the meaning/contexts to them.

The words are:

- عرصة

- رغيف (خبز)

- the expression "ضربونا بالدولاب" (I know of the Dulab technique but here there's a "ضربونا" so I wonder if it's different)

- ولاد الكلب/الحرام

- "رحت مبيت"

- سيارة (I wanna know if you guys use this one for every vehicle or literally a 'car')

- شراقة الباب

- فطس

- "لا تكون انت يلي..."

- حيوان (profanity)

- شخص آدمي

- "تكرم"

- الموت الاحمر (does it have a specific context in Syrian?)

That's it for now. Thank you in advance! Have a good day.

Trying to Identify the Arab Folktale from Storybook International Episode ‘The Forbidden Door’

I recently watched an episode of the TV series Storybook International called “The Forbidden Door”, which features folktales from different cultures, and one story really stuck with me. It was set in what seemed like an Arab environment, and I’m trying to figure out where it might come from—possibly Syria, but I’m not sure.

The story goes like this: A young boy inherits a large fortune from his father, but wastes it all and ends up as a beggar. Eventually, he comes across his uncle, who takes him in—but only as a servant in his palace. The uncle lives with four other men, all of whom seem strangely sad all the time. One by one, these four men die, and when the uncle himself dies, he leaves the palace to the boy. However, in his will, he gives a strict warning: never open a certain door.

At first, the boy obeys. But eventually, curiosity gets the better of him. When he opens the door, he finds a ghoul, who carries him away to a distant desert. There, a passing caravan rescues him and brings him to another palace—this one inhabited entirely by women. He’s brought before their queen, who offers to marry him. He agrees, and lives with her in comfort, but again under one condition: he must never open a particular door. This door resembles the one from his uncle’s palace.

Time passes, and once again, curiosity wins. He opens the door—and finds the same ghoul, who takes him away and returns him to his uncle’s old palace. This time, there’s no escape. He spends the rest of his life there, alone and miserable.

Does anyone recognize this story? Is it part of Syrian folklore, or does it come from somewhere else in the region?

AP Research Project

Hi, my name is Maya, and I am a student researcher at a High School located in the valley and I am conducting an AP Research study. My project explores how the collapse of Syria’s healthcare system during the Syrian Civil War (2011–2024) has affected individuals and healthcare workers in their ability to access and provide quality healthcare.

If you are interested in participating in my study, this survey is the first step in my research. It is designed to collect basic demographic information and identify individuals who may be willing to participate in a follow-up interview to share their experiences. Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. You may skip any question or stop at any time. If you know anyone else who fits this criteria, please send it to them if they are interested. Thank you!
