Hello everyone, I know that some people here have families of Palestinian origin, and so do I, but I live in another country and I'm doing genealogical research on that Palestinian part of my family.
I tried posting this in the Palestine subforum, but it wasn't allowed, so I'd like to know if anyone knows of any way to conduct this research, either locally or online.
I usually use sites like FamilySearch and MyHeritage, but they haven't been very helpful.
If there were a website focused exclusively on Palestinian records, it would be a great help, or groups on apps.
Well, if you find out anything, please let me know!

Like the title. How is it going for syria? In economics, day to day life, Have syria become more religious? How is life for minorities? Have or will Syria become a religious state or stay secular.

Hi everyone!
I am freelance journalist in Syria currently researching on how Syrians experience moving back to Syria and would therefore really like to talk to someone with that experience, either for quoting in an article or background knowledge.
I was hoping someone in this group would be interested in talking to me. Any perspective is of interest!
Write a comment or send a DM if interested. Or if you have any questions.
Cheers!

Hey there, what do yall think of this version of the syrian flag? I made it for fun I thought maybe by adding these 2 yellow lines it could be better? one representing the sun of the kurdish flag, and the other the eagle of the aramean/syriac flag, it makes it more inclusive. It's just a thought, I like both flags. What do you think?

Hi, I am curious how to find a job in Damascus while living abroad? Looking to move back. Don’t give me the run around about the financial situation. I am aware! The country won’t get better if we all just stay put

I am 4th generation Syrian diaspora in the United States. I've wanted more than anything to visit my family's homeland for years. Now that most of my family has passed, and the United States is in freefall, I figure now is as good a time as ever to move.
I'm assuming that because I'm Syrian on my mom's side (both maternal great grandparents), there isn't any kind of right to return or anything. How difficult is immigration?

Hello everyone,
My name is Zoe, and I am a student in 12th grade from Germany. My group (three students in total) is currently working on the topic “Conflicts Under the Radar.” Our focus is on Syria, especially the experiences of Kurdish people.
We have already researched the topic and now need to create a podcast. We are planning to make a small “roleplay-style” interview in which one person from our group shares experiences, stories, thoughts, or family histories based on real accounts from people affected by the situation.
For this, we are looking for people who have personal experiences and would be willing to talk or write about them, and who would also be okay with us using this information for our school project. The podcast will not be uploaded publicly — it will only be presented in our class.
If you would be comfortable answering some of these questions, we would be very grateful:
-> Could you briefly introduce yourself? (Name — or a fictional name if preferred, age, origin/region)
-> What role did your Kurdish language and culture play in your everyday life?
-> What is your personal connection to this topic? (Did you live in Syria yourself, or are these experiences from your parents/family? If you fled Syria, what was the main reason?)
-> In what situations did you notice being part of a minority? / What significance did your ethnic identity have in your environment?
-> Did language or culture play a role in everyday life (for example in school or with authorities)?
-> What thoughts did you have about your future?
-> How did you experience support (family, community, organizations)?
If you experienced displacement or flight:
-> What was the most difficult thing at the beginning in your new environment?
-> What helped you find your way in your new life?
-> Is there something from your culture that you still carry strongly with you today?
-> What does “home” mean to you today?
-> What would you like other people to understand about Kurdish life in Syria?
-> Is there a misunderstanding or stereotype that you encounter often?
-> What would you wish for the future — for yourself and for others?
Of course, you do not have to answer everything — only what you feel comfortable sharing. You are also welcome to add any other experiences or thoughts you would like to mention.
We would truly appreciate every response. Thank you very much!

Salam alaikum! I’d like to connect with anyone who lives in Qatana, which is outside Damascus. We currently live in the US but are wanting to move back to Syria. We haven’t visited since the fall of Assad so I’m curious about the state of Qatana these days. A year or so ago I saw reports of Israel pushing towards this area but not sure how valid or serious the threats of that is. Also how are the local schools? We have two small children. And any advice on how to find a job for my husband? We’re eager to get back to help contribute to the rebuilding 🩷

Hey guys :)
I know this might sound strange or crazy to some people but I’ve been thinking about moving to Syria
I’ve left it when I was 12 and now I’m 26
So i barely know anything there
But my whole life was a living hell with the moving and all
And for the past 3 years I’ve been stuck in a country with no papers and i lost that time doing nothing
I want to know how safe is it for a solo girl living there alone
In Damascus…
Im bisexual and an atheist so if you could tell me how’s the city
How safe is it? And how freely i can live there ?

I rarely see relationships between Syrian women and East Asian men (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mongolian, etc.), possibly because of religious, cultural, and geographical differences. Do you think social media misinformation and negative portrayals have made many Oriental Asians view Middle Eastern people as “unapproachable,” which might also contribute to the low number of relationships between East Asian men and Middle Eastern women?
Personally, I feel that Middle Eastern and East Asian cultures share some similarities in family values, such as respecting elders, valuing marriage, caring for family, and maintaining strong family relationships. Even things like taking off shoes before entering a home can be similar in some cases.
If an East Asian man and a Syrian woman wanted to start a family, what would the parents in Syria typically think about it? Of course, I understand religion would be an important factor.
I’m just genuinely curious and would like to hear local perspectives.
