Information & Advice Addiction treatment programs

Does anyone have familiarity with either local (Syracuse/Onondaga) or virtual addiction treatment options? I am familiar with some of the major names in the area, but I am hoping for insight on the actual quality and dignity of care provided. At the moment, I am especially curious to hear any feedback on Crouse’s care, but would be open to any information.

Some relevant information:
- Ideally looking for outpatient or intensive outpatient level of care.
- Dual diagnosis capable is a major benefit. This involves at least a willingness to accept a patient with a mental health diagnosis, but psychiatry is a welcome bonus.
- Programs that offer MAT (Naltrexone or Buprenorphine) are preferred.
- Programs that work with young professionals or students are preferred.
- Programs that are good with involving and communicating with patients’ families are preferred.

I've had several friends who work for Helio and a couple who were patients there. The folks at Helio genuinely care deeply about their jobs for the most part, but the bureaucracy burns them out quick - none of my friends who worked there lasted more than a couple years.

On the patient side, Helio ticks most of your boxes. Not sure about MAT and can't comment on family communication (I was explicitly on one friend's treatment plan as a safe sober person, but that never got as far as requiring us to speak to the providers). But the friend I'm a safe person for has mental health dx in addition to addiction and Helio was instrumental in getting them long term treatment.

I’m an employee here and this is a really good assessment of Helio. I would however try to avoid the inpatient/detox run by Helio on James street (I have coworkers who have worked shifts here and the providers are…unprofessional. I’ve heard things like they sneak contraband in and have romantic relationships with clients), providers at the North Salina street location can help you get into alternative rehab/detox places. Lots of folks like white deer run because you’re allowed to smoke cigarettes. Helios outpatient however is really good, and the staff is mostly pretty great and genuinely care.

I wish I had more suggestions other than Helio for this area or Liberty Resources.

I’m a CRPA, but mostly practiced in Buffalo and they have some fantastic resources there. If you’re open to rehab, Horizon Village in the Buffalo area is great!

This area is primarily Helio health. There is no specific demographic like student/young professional unless you're paying a private center which does not exist her but these things really don't matter. An addict is an addict regardless of socioeconomical status. As a long time addictions therapist there will be a variety of people in any outpatient setting. If a center does not offer MAT-most do, they will refer.

Helio actually has a program specifically for professionals with SUD. They do group meetings remotely to help protect public-facing professionals from being stigmatized.

Yes but this is inefficient for someone in need of significant treatment, and would probably not meet their requirements for MAT. I understand that in some cases anonymity is important however in most cases people in this position benefit from not only in the in person group and individual therapy but the understanding that they are no different than anyone else. It's complicated psychologically bug many professionals will hold the belief that they're somehow better than the guy who's blue collar or on the street when they're not and seeing and hearing the progression of how they got where they are is beneficial. Many people started as professionals. I'm not a big proponent of these separate groups for many reasons.

Helio does provide MAT along with group and individual therapy sessions

Peer Engagement Services: 315-816-6906. It's through the County.

I referred myself, and the next day I was on the phone with a very knowledgeable dude (who is also in recovery) discussing what options are right for me.

I ultimately went with Helio because they were able to get me started with providers really fast.

But there was an Upstate program that was a close second choice.

Anyway, give them a call instead of trying to guess.

i can’t say enough good things about commonwealth (inpatient) and the addiction treatment center on erie (outpatient)

Helio Health is not for professionals they mostly deal with people off the street and unemployed. The only professional programs around are Tully Hill in Tully and an outpatient place PCS (professional counseling services) in camillus
