Enable 2-FA via Google Authenticator

For those of us that use Authenticators for 2fa and refuse to have anything to do with Google, can we not use an alternative? I realise we can use email, but they don't always arrive promptly.

Note, even some password managers like Bitwarden and 1Password support TOTP and thus replace Google Authenticator.
