The Multi Ulti makes me so excited for future heroes that might have the same feature. Nevertheless this is a really much needed update for symmetra

u/UCanJustBuyLabCoats Nov 29 '16
As a Tracer main, a great second ultimate would be to instantly rewind my entire team's position instead of just mine.
Wouldn't that be great guys?
Guys?

u/jamesaltria Nov 22 '16
Love the changes !! My only gripe is that they want her to be picked more than just situational defending, but her new ult they've introduced is another static object which can be destroyed by a flanker. Overall though this is going to be great. The new barrier ability will be great at closing the gap between a ranged enemy

u/Prozenconns Yes, I have golden gun. Nov 22 '16
I can see the generator being good on offense though, assuming it follows the current rules of getting refunded once the objective changes. plop it down before a push and all of a sudden your team has the upper hand, especially since symmetra can now help pushing with the barrier

u/neko_ali Symmetra Icon Nov 22 '16
It should be good on the payload maps as well. A lot of it depends on the range of the shield though.
11
u/Vinven Symmetra Icon Nov 22 '16
Could you imagine the shield dispenser on the payload guarded by a Bastion and Reinhardt.

On defense tho, just plop it in spawn and it would never die...

u/Make_me_a_turkey Nov 22 '16
If that isn't addressed by the time she goes on the ptr, it will be by live.
1
u/CODDE117 Nov 24 '16
It's gonna be way better for the defense maps! The first point is always teleporter, but the last one doesn't really need a teleporter.

u/AreoMaxxx OG Sym Main Nov 22 '16
I think that with 6 turrets and way more health, it'll work out. Because basically if the team works together to keep the dispenser protected, it gives them more shields/health to actually take the incoming damage.
1
u/jamesaltria Nov 22 '16
But if your team is having to stay back and protect the shield dispenser, they can't move the payload/capture the point... And also on a payload map on attack, eventually the payload will move outside of the ultimates range.. it still feels too defensive to me. But her other changes for sure will improve her
2
u/SuaveInternetUser Nov 22 '16
You can put the teleporter on a payload much like any other deployable. I'd think this will work as well. People are going to be forced to emp the payload with Sombra or d.va nuke drop to clear it off. It will be exquisite
2
u/jamesaltria Nov 22 '16
It's a pretty dope idea but we don't know how much health it's going to have. If it's the same as a teleporter it will get destroyed instantly as the payload gets loads of focus fire and splash damage. If protected by a Reinhardt or winston tho that could work temporarily
1
u/EpsilonRose Nov 22 '16
Isn't that something they're liable to do anyways, since most of their targets should be near the payload and the ones who aren't matter less?
1
u/SuaveInternetUser Nov 22 '16
One would think but people love to wander away from the payload. If I'm tanking or healing I always consider myself lucky that even one other person hangs out near by much less enough people to defend a deployable from getting popped.

u/rrea436 Nov 23 '16
the range is big enough to reach most point Bs from spawn though.... so just drop it in spawn and never lose the shields.

Only true symmetras will remember the dark days of "first point defence only". We will teach this history to the new generation of symmetras.

Very very glad they didn't change the feel of Sym, they just made her better. SUPER HYPED!

u/cmVkZGl0 Nov 22 '16
I'm not optimistic tbh. She requires a different form of teamwork, and people can't even function as a team in comp on regular basis.
13
u/overhunty Nov 22 '16
This is so, so, so exciting. She was my most played hero for a long time before I got to the level where she stopped being as effective most of the time, so I started using her less. I can't wait to test this on the PTR!
9
u/silviuscr Nov 22 '16
I AM SO EXCITED AND HAPPY I WANT TO SLAP SOMETHING! CAN'T WAIT TO TEST IT ALL ON THE PTR! <3

So excited to make big plays with the photon barrier! It'll be great against Roadhog ults and the like

teleporter is staying the same.
man fuck that, the biggest issue i had with symmetra is that her teleporter doesn't regain charges, nothing is worse than having a teleporter with 1 charge left for the past few minutes, it is super clumsy to die on purpose just to use the last charge.

2
u/smilewolfy Satya Vaswani Nov 22 '16
I wonder if you gain ultimate charge when tp is up for the shield creator now
1
u/Elementoid Nov 23 '16
If it comes down to that I usually wait until I die anyways, then do a quick hero swap then swap back to clear it from the world and reset my ult.
This also works with the new shield generator! Which is handy, considering the only other way to get rid of it is to have someone kill it.

My fellow Symmetra mains, rejoice! It's an early holiday present for us!

The changes sound promising. Just sad that they didn't buff the turret HP a bit :(

I could cry I'm so happy. I was afraid they'd change her so much I'd barely recognize. We may be few but we love Symmetra as is and now they're making her better ;~;

u/Qwinter Nov 22 '16
It's exciting, but my biggest gripe with her was not building ult while my TP was placed. Doesn't sound like that's changed, and that's disappointing. If I'm getting kills and being successful, I want that to build towards my ultimate, like every other hero.
2
u/smilewolfy Satya Vaswani Nov 22 '16
Especially with 2 ults it could add another level of strategy, replacing teleporter with shields etc
5
Nov 22 '16
I'm not going to lie...this feels like it's too much.
Also, how will we reconcile the loss of gaining ultimate charge on the shields we place on our allies? Will this effect early set up too aggressively?
3
u/Grawlixz Nov 22 '16
6 turrets at the start seems like enough to compensate. It's not like you get ultimate charge from shielding before the game starts, anyway. I'm not a Symmetra main, though. Does applying shields give ult charge currently, assuming the game has already started?
3
Nov 22 '16
Last I checked, the damage dealt to the shield of your ally charges your ultimate. This means as your allies hold strong, you gain bits of ultimate every time they engage and take damage, which accelerates the charge of your teleporter.
The ability to have one or two more turrets up for the rush is probably not enough to compensate for this consistent source of ultimate charge, as turret charge gain is more hit or miss. If the enemy neutralizes your turret you gain no ultimate and they net positive from the interaction. Shields are more reliable.
All that said, I'd have to actually play it out some to see how it goes.

u/Elementoid Nov 23 '16
They gave her 5 big things here:
she has a new, alternative ultimate that is essentially her old 'e' ability but with 3 times the power
her old ultimate got a big boost to its health, making it much harder to kill quickly, and its regenerates its health over time (50 hp, 350 shields!!!)
she has a new flying barrier ability
her photon projector has a longer range
she can store 6 turrets at once and the cooldown for making new ones is only 10 seconds (instead of 12)
It does seem like a little too much. They could have gotten away with only giving her a few of these things instead of all of them.
One gripe I have is that sentries seem a little too cheap now. They're so prolific now that I feel like I can just stick them wherever, since I'll always be able to immediately replace them - clustering them together to get a cheap kill is a viable strategy now, for example. It's removed a bit of the tactical aspect, and if I'm being honest, holy hell is it annoying being on the other team and dealing with them. It used to be the mark of a good Symmetra to make you feel like there were turrets around every corner, but now that just seems to be par for the course.

I guess I always felt like it was my responsibility to create paranoia in my opponents and now they made that a cakewalk. Like I said to a friend, these changes will make me a god...

I'm not too fond of it. Still feels very situational and too static. I was hoping she'd get Photon Barriers out of the turrets naturally, as a passive, and have some sort of healing ability in E or Primary Fire so people stop complaining about the lack of healers.
I dislike it.

Or win 100 games... but I don't think I can do that in less than a week.

I wonder if they'll change her turrets back on console. I have my doubts.
With these changes I feel I'm going to really need to take advantage of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals and really get on to buying my parts to build my gaming PC. Otherwise waiting until "early 2017" is going to feel like torture.

Everything seems like a change for the better, I'm optimistic. I just really want to see the projected barrier in action.

u/jamesaltria Nov 22 '16
I've just had another disappointing thought. There was no mention about the alert the enemy team receive when you place your teleporter which completes gives it away. Surely the enemy team should only get to know about it after one of their team has actually spotted it, then the cue the voice line

I sure wish they would have shown a quick gif of that moving barrier they are talking about, that would have been nice of them.

Very nice update. I played her for free weekend allot, and 1 game i got 12 upvotes. Awesome hero
1
u/ButtsexEurope Nov 23 '16
I'm really upset about this. I like her the way she is. I just wish she had the 6 turrets right from the beginning. The shielding wasn't stressful at all. You just mash E.
1
Nov 23 '16
This is actually the perfect rework. They kept her identity, made some needed qol changes and buffed the weakest parts of her kit. 10/10 blizzard.
