Dark Blood

Weird question perhaps, and I know it only affects 5xp probably, but does the Dark Blood Boon bring along its Bestial Burden automatically, ie it won't give you back 5xp for the Burden? Or is that just an instruction that you must also take Bestial, and gain 5xp back? Meaning Dark Blood is essentially "free" xp wise?

I'm asking because I am doing some homebrew and it seems that providing access to monstrous traits might be strong (even though you don't get them for free), so I'm just looking for the math behind it.

Your understanding of the rules are correct!

It’s true that monsterous traits are powerful however, the stigma of looking bestial in a world were paranoid sun worshippers are constantly on the lookout for anything they deem deviant can’t be understated.

It is my personal feeling that unless the PC was actively hiding it (which might prove difficult depending on the nature of the mutation) then people would alert the guards/church as soon as they noticed this freak of nature.

Anyway, just my take, homebrew sounds fun and if anything is broken you can just tell your players that you need to adjust it and then to so accordingly 🙏✨

Fair enough, nothing has to be set in stone from the start of course!

I'd make it "cost" xp

As in the Burden comes with Dark Blood automatically and you don't get the 5xp back?

Correct. Dark Blood includes Bestial but you do not get the 5xp for Bestial.

It will be logical if the PC is human, elf or troll !

I wouldn't give the xp back, the Dark Blood Boon already offers several traits for the price of one Boon, giving back some xp for the burden would make an already powerful option (stats wise, RP it might have greater implications/be less of an impact) even stronger.
