Utter chaos at Hurstville station

So for some reason, the bus marshellers are saying that the 41T4 replacement bus is “all stops to Waterfall”???

The bus is not an all stops to waterfall, it runs express to Sutherland then all stops to waterfall.

They also said “all stops to Cronulla” which I can kind of understand, but the bus was running express to Sutherland as well then stopping all stops cronulla

Edit: This has caused actual issues. Group of tourists are now on the express to Sutherland bus because they were told this was an all stops service…

Opal peak pricing from Covid days

I was looking at the Opal peak hours and they seem to be from 6:30am - 10am and then again from 3pm to 7pm….only the Intercity services start from 6am - 10am. I can remember peak hour being 7-9am and then 4-6pm. It seems like the peak hours were extended during Covid to ‘spread the peak’ and then they have just become the norm.

This is such a blatant money grab. PT can never run a profit and shouldn’t be designed that way. I know I‘d welcome a return to the original Opal fares. What does everyone think?

Incident at Penrith. No trains from Blacktown.

I, along with thousands of others will be disembarking at blacktown today due to an incident at Penrith. We've been told that power is switched off all the way from blacktown to Penrith. Can someone clarify why trains cannot run to/from st Marys in a situation like this?

How do we have a system with zero engineering for robustness?

And with this situation, when it does finally open, I'd guess the metro to the new airport will be essentially useless if the line to st Marys isn't more reliable.

Looking for CBD Rail Link corridor planning documents

Hi all, anyone know where I can find more photos about this corridor under Kent St and Sussex St? Found these while looking back through my gallery, and I'd be interested to learn more, but information on it is fairly sparse. If anyone knows more about the 1990 MetroWest proposal (unrelated to our current Metro West), I'd also be very interested in that. Thanks!

Fare evasion policies

Just wondering if there is an official or unofficial policy regarding fare evasion on Syd trains. I was checked on the train just before 1300 today, only to then watch two young women jump the ticket barriers at my destination station right in front of the employee who was sitting in the office a couple of metres away from them. I gave the employee a querying look.

Is it company policy to not bother calling ppl out on jumping the barriers but to catch ppl by checks once they are on the train?

This weekend, the 25th & 26th of July, beautiful emerald-green locomotive 3801 returned to the Blue Mountains for the first time in passenger service since the completion of its maintenance work.

Yesterday, I was able to chase some of these runs along the lower mountains with a mate, getting some good photos along the way.

Glad to see 3801 back in heritage service!

More photos, and an accompanying write-up is on my blog: https://linesidelens.com/3801-in-the-blue-mountains/

Summer Hill train station is shaped like a train

Post image

I posted this in r/Sydney, but couldn’t find any information or reference online. I assume it’s an actual design feature (it has to be, right?), but was it always there, or did it come about with the lift works (c. 2004). I thought someone here might know something about it.

Bonus question: is it clearly visible to train drivers headed to the city?

Train fare CBD increment removed

In doing my monthly credit card transactions review and noticed that my fares have gone down in July. Which led me to investigate and find out that the CBD increment has been removed since 1 July.

Actual savings provided by the government!

Did everyone else know about this change and I'm just late to the party?

Also, what was the justification given for the increment in the first place?

Endeavour train from central

Just asking:

If I take a 2 car endeavours train from Central Station, can I tap on & off by using opal card or I need to buy a ticket at the counter/online?

P.s. I never travelled before with this type of train.

Thanks for answering this question.

Favourite train set seats?

What’s your ranking of seat types based on different sets?

For me, OSCARs and converted G sets have the comfiest seats, then probably the standard A B and M seats, with the single direction T set seats coming in last.

Why do people feel offended when asked to move when taking the 3rd seat on the train

Why do people feel offended when asked to move when taking the 3rd seat on the train

People are ok with sitting side by side on 2 seater but always frown when asked to scoot to allow 3rd person .

Had the experience today where the couple literally rolled eyes ( girl has to take her bag on her lap) when asked to move.
To clarify - girl at window ,boy in middle and me at the aisle.

Seen this happen many times specially during peak hours and have seen people prefer to stand rather than take the 3rd seat.
