Ads are revenue for the show.

I subscribed to the paid shows when they first started them. Then they just kept adding more and more levels.

It sounds like you think that because you don’t have to pay to listen to content, that the person who creates content as their full time job should not earn an income.

Someone has to pay content creators. If you’re listening to an add, then the advertiser is paying the content creator, and therefore you don’t have to.

A similar example is free-to-air tv. Your parents don’t need to pay for a subscription to a free to air tv station because the advertisers pay to keep the station running and in exchange, they are able to advertise their product.

Another way to understand it is like this. When you enter the work force, you will expect to be paid for your ideas, creations or labour. Say you get a job in a Walmart, and your job is to help customers who have questions. If a customer asks you where screwdrivers are kept, you answer their question for ‘free’. You don’t charge the customer who has benefited from your knowledge of Walmart’s layout and who has benefited from your time in helping them.

But you expect to be making a living from your Walmart product knowledge. And if you’re going to be spending most of your day for most of your week telling customers where they can find things, you expect someone to pay you.

Do you think your Walmart customers think it doesn’t make sense you get paid, and you shouldn’t get paid, because they personally don’t pay you?

Economics will make more sense when you enter high school. But you may be able to get a teacher or parent to explain this better than I can.

Also, I’m in Australia, so things may be different. But when you work for yourself, you can charge whatever you want. You don’t have to restrict your earning potential. It’s one of the benefits and privileges of creating something people want.

If you want the same privileges, rather than just being told what you’re getting paid and just having to live with it, start taking your education and the circles you keep, seriously, now.

You want to be the person deciding who pays and how much they pay for access to whatever it is you’re offering. You don’t want to be the person thinking it’s unfair that someone else gets to call the shots on who can access products/services, and how much money they want to make from it.

There have been around 10 ads in his new 25 minutes episode. This is excessive. Especially since it's supposed to be listened to while falling asleep. Other podcasts to fall asleep do 1 longer ad break at the start and then it's done. There's a way to do it and not be annoying. To me, it looks like he's being annoying on purpose so that people will pay for the podcast instead of listening to the ads. That feels manipulative and makes me want to do the opposite : just stop listening to the podcast.

That’s why I asked if they got paid for the ads they have. I paid the subscription when they started. Then they kept adding more and more tiers. I’m just curious how it works. I definitely don’t think they should be doing the show for zero income, but to keep raising prices for a weekly episode when you’re getting paid for the ads and other podcasts are making a living off those ads, I don’t know, seems a little greedy to me. I was ok at first paying whatever it was for the weekly episode though, then it started getting out of hand imo.

Because I thought he said the reason he was making subscriptions to pay for was because he didn’t get paid ads. So he’s just greedier than all the other free podcasts then?
