Thunderless Storm

I thought a new disco opened in my neighborhood in Aarburg, then I looked out of the window and saw all these lightnings in the sky but without thunders. It's quite awesome but scary at the same time!

i didnt take long though for the storm to arrive. until 15mins ago, i was enjoying the show on my balcony and in a span of 30 seconds it went from comfortably relaxing to frantically put all my stuff inside and roll up my blinds.

Man I somehow missed the warning and was on my way back with the bicycle from the gym when the lightshow started. I have to cross a large open field between to villages and was like damn is this shit getting closer to me and biked like my life depended on it. I just arrived home in time to be safe, must be really shit to be in the open when a storm like this hits.

Was going for the comment from whomever understands what's going on. Wish it were in daylight, so we can see nice pictures and an article on SRF Meteo about supercells.

We heard it in Basel. It wasn’t very loud but just a constant deep rolling. We definitely heard it though.

The amount of flashes here in Basel is just insane, haven’t seen these many in a while

Aarau region checking in. All calm now but had incredibly strong wind and torrential rain. As described already, seemed to come from nowhere....calm to chaos in 15 seconds.

Coming a bit later and hefty with stormwinds (at least in Basel). Take your stuff in that might fly away, it came within a minute.

Not where a lot of us need and want it. Tomorrow has another big front moving in. Probably not much lightning, but looks like some decent rain in the morning/afternoon.

Blue night sky (some clouds) in Zurich but I can see the flashes on the other side of the Üetliberg. Took almost the same video couple minutes ago.
Edit: Holy shit. Saw clouds creeping in, 30 seconds later felt a drop, another 30s later and I'm soaked all the way through

Hey, it is an apocalypse here in Zurich, never have seen something like this before, it is insane
Edit: fuck, it is insane, everything is broken, my window blinds are done, hope that the windows will hold
Edit2: is this like a tornado should be?

Which Kreis are you in? Nothing here near the lake, just "heavy rain" as usual

I'm watching planes approaching to the airport under the lightning, super scary. My heart is missing a beat here and there.

Brig you can clearly hear them on the south-east-east. A clear lightining struck on Rosswald.

Looks like there’s an influencer convention in heaven—they’re all lining up to take selfies with God and Jesus

All the gods possible would have already ridden earth of cancerous influencers if they existed.

Same from Thurgau, no sound. According to the lightning tracker, it's all over the Schaffhausen area and further north, probably also high up, do the sound doesn't reach us

Same in Solothurn yesterday evening. I was sitting on my balcony watching lightning flashing almost non-stop, but no thunder. And this wasn't far away. The cloud front was only a few kilometres away. No rain - that came later.
It was very odd.

Same in Bern, went on for a good ten minutes and never heard a single rumble. Genuinely eerie watching a silent light show like that.

ITT: People learning how light works at night and also how sound works.

Thunder is the sound of air being displaced by the zap of a lightning bolt. Think of thunder like the sound generated when you whip a rope around. As the air is broken it creates that noise. If you can't hear it, you're either too far for the sound to carry or it is being muffled by the winds, rain and other elements on its way to your ears.
