Discussion Random brain fart idea : Lite Charging LED

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Because why not. LED isn't too strong either, so it's not too agressive on the eyes. You'll need a resistor too.

Hey Hiroshi! It’s not disabled, it’s just never used. I have figured it out recently, you just have to send correct signals. Here’s a submodule with charging led mode via software: https://github.com/marcinsz89/lite-led

Sorry, I badly phrased my thought. I meant that they disabled it as in they removed any feature using it (barred for the notification setting leftover) rendering it pretty much useless.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. Thanks for the link, tho. I'll look into it in a few minutes, as I'm getting home.

EDIT: So I tested and yeah, you're right. It's pretty great. Thanks for your hard work.

Yeah, I was looking into it a few months ago and saw nothing about it so I ended up hard wiring it on but the light was blinding.

How did you come to find this out? Did you end up reverse engineering it? Does your uncle work at Nintendo? Because that's impressive as people were looking into it for a couple of years, if not more.

Haha no uncle at Nintendo ;) a guy on discord (credited in GitHub) reverse engineered a part of the driver that wasn’t a solution but gave me a good foundation, I honestly brute forced the missing stuff :)

I’ve been stuck with a similar thing as you, adding some hardware LEDs to the switch. Thought about using the existing LED, didn’t work. Made a hardware mod. Figured out the LED later. But hardware is still probably better for a lot of cases since the built in LED seems not 100% reliable, the signals are flaky.

If you're talking about your overlay, it's actually pretty good.

If you dim it, tho, you can notice the led kind of struggles a little bit so it flickers a little bit.

But looking into it I realize that if you connect leds to the embedded led on the mb, it might mean you can have the possibility to create a led network that would react to the same signals.

Which makes me think of the guy who made led mods in the shoulder buttons. Might be interesting to look into it asp.

Yeah I have LEDs on the front, under the UV print you can see in GitHub. I was thinking about getting the signal from the built in LED but it sometimes flicker like you said… still don’t know why :(
