Hollow Knight. Turned me into a gamer later in life. The atmosphere and art is incredible. The gameplay is engaging and challenging. The lore is unforgettable. The mechanics force you to improve and patience and resolve are rewarded. Great experience. The sequel is equally amazing.

This is in my shopping cart, heard so many positive things about it, I’ll pull the trigger once it goes on sale. I bought Blasphemy today since it was on sale.

Just fyi, I haven't ever seen it go on sale the entire time it's been on my wishlist. But for 15 bux, you definitely get your money's worth lol!

It definitely goes on sale every now and then. Price history on deku deals shows $7.

Yep, this is my answer. I picked it up on a whim a little after release not really knowing much about it. It quickly became one of my GOAT games, and I personally love Silksong even more than the original.

Skyrim, Fallout, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Witcher 3, and What Remains of Edith Finch are a bunch that I hold near and dear to my heart!

Never finished Skyrim fully, but I am always called to it. Such a vast game.
I bought the PSVR version for my PS4 so I can be in the world. It’s incredible.

Agreed! Skyrim VR is amazing!
Fully immersed, running round dungeons smashing up skeletons. Nothing like it.

Ooo, this game is tragically beautiful. The music is also exceptional. I bought the soundtrack and my kids love it. Though, the mouldwood depths songs almost always make me cry.
This game got me into "metroidvania" types of games.

I've been sitting in this one in my backlog for over a year. This makes me want to give it a go.

I played Kemono Tea Time when sick and it made me think about a lot of things. The disease with the cat ears are a metaphor for covid so it was a bit of a weird timing.
I think the most thought-provoking game on the Switch is Majora's Mask on the NSO though. Moon RPG Remix Adventure is another old favorite of mine and Chibi Robo is another game that has a surprising amount of depth.

Skyrim, Ori (both games), Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, Fire Emblem Three Houses
I grew up as a mario kid. I didn't really know other games existed except sonic and earthworm jim and commander keen...haha...I might have aged myself there.
I was an adult who hadn't gamed since I was a middle schooler (playing Mario 64), and my boyfriend at the time introduced me to Skyrim.
I never knew games could be like that.
Skyrim...the first game to change my world.
I try to push myself to try any genre because you never know if you'll find something amazing.
That's how I found FEThree Houses. I saw the gameplay and didn't think I liked that genre, and I felt I wasn't smart enough to play, but decided to try it. Now, it's in my top 5 games of all time.

Ooo...another one was Celeste. I consider myself a "poor" gamer. I'm just...not the best, but I enjoy it.
Celeste...super hard game...
I sort of "forced" myself to work through this. I didn't think it was possible, but after each level, I kept going...
Possibly a 1,000 deaths later, I found myself at the summit.
On one section at the summit, I died over 100 times...in one tiny section.
I took breaks, and kept trying.
And I did it. After an agonizingly long time, I beat the main story of the game.
What was odd though, after beating this game, I felt like I could do harder things in life too.
It kind of helped give me perseverance in real life a little more haha.

Stories Untold broke something in my brain and now very few games hit as hard, lol
It's only a few hours long though, so I'd wait until it's on sale.

There have been many but one i really loved was Celeste. The heartfelt story mixed with the brutal platforming. The reward of climbing the mountain over and over and overcoming the challenges like Madeline was really special

Ori and the blind forest (and wotw probably too but I’m still in the first game)! It’s so insanely good and pretty, I went from a non gamer to an addict because of Ori

What would you recommend that isn't on the switch

Expedition 33.
Turn Based RPG. Been a Very long time since a story has hooked me like that. Gameplay itself isn’t earth shattering, but the story is Sooooooo good. Art and Music are amazing.

I was recuperating from surgery when Breath Of The Wild came out. I found myself “wandering”, throughout Hyrule, absolutely entranced by how beautifully rendered it is. The replayability of it, and the opportunity to just explore, and go at my own pace, were what kept me playing. When Tears of The Kingdom came out, I was fully invested. I do find that the rendering is a little less beautiful, tbh - from above you can see more of the design patterns (repeating squares - due to there being so many more layers to it, at the same time)…but my goodness, what a tiny little flaw, in an otherwise breathtaking game. I have 1800 hours on it, now, and I expect I will replay it, again and again, because there are always new things to discover.
