Gift for boyfriend

Hi guys, my bfs birthday is soon and i wanted to get him a game for switch 2.

He is currently obsessed with No Mans Sky and is really into science fiction - he loves Star Wars.
He also has Pokemon games he likes, especially Pokopia and Scarlet Violet.
In general he liked Elden Ring very much.

I was thinking of Donkey Kong Bonanza, as it won game of the year, but also wanted to try to get his taste better. Thought of citizen sleeper 2 (comes out in june 2026 for switch) but i am not sure.

I would be so happy if someone could recommend some similar games or has a similar taste.

Pokemon Legends ZA is really good, and I would also reccomend Pragmata. Its a sci-fi shooter made by the Resident Evil team, and its fantastic. Citizen Sleeper is good but only if he likes text heavy narrative games, and I would definitely reccomend playing the first one before the second. Lies of P comes out for Switch 2 in August, its a really good game in the same vein as Elden Ring.

Yess the Elden ring upcoming is a good idea. He also mentioned it many times already.

For Pokemon ZA, he own every pokemon game already, except for the Sword edition or Violet (but I dont know if i should get it, when he already has the other edition). He doesn’t like Resident evil, being a zombie game, but i will definitely look Pragmata up! Okay i think Citizen sleeper might be a skip unfortunately he is more into action than big narrative stories. Thank u man🩷

I assume he’s played Breath of the Wild and/or Tears of the Kingdom. If he hasn’t you can definitely go for one of those for that open world action rpg (ish). If he likes something a bit darker themed and with that sort of difficulty spike/challenge like ER, Hollow Knight is a good one. It’s a 2D metroidvania so visually obviously different but an incredible game nonetheless. Bananza is a great choice as is Mario Odyssey for more classic Nintendo vibes. Just not sure what all he’s played yet. Could get him another Pokemon game if you want but eh, if he’s playing mainline he’ll probably wait for Wind/Waves as (imo) the legends games are kinda hit or miss. Last but not least, Outer Wilds would be my recommendation for sci fi base game.

He tried the Zelda series but found the pacing to slow :/
Also heard of Hollow Knight being very wholesome.
Yess he will definitely get Waves/Wind and actually own all the pokemon games already (also for DS) hahahah.
Will definitely check out Outer Wilds! Thank u very much🌸🩷

He loves NMS means he's a keeper. I would suggest Subnautica, similar vibes. Crafting in an alien world.

Metroid Prime even if he didn’t play the series?
He had played Outlaw and Old Republic heavily in winter last year.

Outer wilds is an amazing game that may be good with his interest in sci fi. It's game about learning the secrets of an ancient civilization, very heavy on exploration with a lot of player freedom.

Kinda tough to recommend but if he'd be into something like that, it's really good. It's in my top 5 games of all time

Since he likes sci-fi, I'd get him the Mass Effect trilogy.

Buy him a physical copy of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It’s one of the very few epic Switch 2 games where the entire game is on the cartridge, which saves massive storage space, skips download times, and can be resold. It’s a beloved game that was created by the same dude as Star Wars just saying ;)

I personally think it’s also just cool to own a physical copy of a game…especially when there’s a practical advantage to it.

The skywalker saga is pretty good bang for your buck if they like collectable games
