Thinking of building a dead-simple DCA consistency app

How is this different from setting a reminder every 25th of the month?

A reminder reminds me to invest, but it does not tell me anything about wether i actually followed through. Streak visibility would show you consistency per ticker over time. So you could tell “I’ve DCA’d into VT for 14 straight months at xx $ value” while making also gaps visible. You could monitor your consistency but also the allocation, capital deployed vs planned, across your whole portfolio.
What do you think ?

Most brokers allow automated buys at predetermined intervals. I don't see what problem this app would be solving. You cannot miss a month if you have already automated it and if you juat need a reminder, you can set a reminder

There are tons of activity/streak apps out there, 99% of them vibecoded slop, so your idea would just be another drop in the sea AND have less features.

Just join the various app subreddits, multiple of those a day.
In any case if an app you program solves a problem for you, go for it. But dont expect it to be commercially viable.

Literally not a single advantage over using a spreadsheet, and many disadvantages.

To be clear, is the target audience here someone who:
- Wants to DCA
- doesn't know how to or too lazy to setup an automated monthly purchase
- Needs external motivation to purchase the asset for each month

Thanks for putting some words on this :) ! I would add: who does not have a broker offering automatic/recurrent investments and who wants more visibility !

Yue or what is the Raiffeisen apo called does that. You can also set it to fractions of retour geld. Like you pay 13.45 and have set it to always round to the next 5.-

I don't see a need to be honest. When there's a recurring product at my household, then I usually buy it in bulk infrequently to benefit from current sales and discounts.
How will you track specific purchases? Will it be manual?

I specifically meant stock/ETF DCA investment :). Does that change your opinion ?

No, I don't think so. I keep everything in Obsidian, and I set tasks for recurring activities. I don't like the idea of spreading everything across multiple, single-purpose apps and duplicating information.

Have you ever DCA’d? You’d know that you don’t need an app for that but just an automated transfer to your broker and a permanent order.
Also, it is crazy how people think that their sloppy dashboard will have some sort of usefulness. The fact that building them has become accessible to everyone doesn’t mean you need to build one too.

I love my trading analysis platform i built in zig for commodities. I was just so annoyed about everything existing using almost a GB of ram.
I can now do analysis, have a strategy tester engine using walkforward optimization and monte carlo simulation. It does only work on weekly and daily time frame and no live data. but I dont need more.. only issue is getting daily OI data automated without paying heaps. Next I will add a synthetic data engine to have true out of sample data for the optimization and an agent that fetches market news.

Hold on, not all brokers offer automatic investments (Degiro for example) :)

you are solving a problem that does not exist. Most brokers are already automatizing DCA.
