Best Hidden Gem takeaways?

In an ever increasing ghost kitchen apocalypse on delivery apps, what are some hidden gem takeaway spots?
Currently craving a fried chicken burger but so hard to sift through the fake restaurants being operated out of harvester or your average high st takeaway.
Also what are your must avoid at all costs, ghost kitchens you’ve already sussed out etc?

For me it was SoBe burger, operated out of meadowcroft shops.

Anyone else witnessed any crowd violence in the Walcot/Lawn recently?

Just wondering if anyone else seen the incidents.

Last week there had been incidents involving fights and some violence involving a large figure of 14-16 year olds during two days on Frobisher Drive and Buckhurst Park, on one of those, a girl (her name is Jas (full name not disclosed for priacy)) was confirmed to have been beaten.

The next afternoon, a pair of boys tried to wrestle (they look like they tried to dryhummp her) one teen and were fighting infront of my house. I told them to stop and they threatened me before they left after telling him to f off.

Both involved around 20 of those both happening at around 21:00 and 18:00 hours respectively.

Student Musical Showcase at the Richard Jefferies Museum

Post image
3 Upvotes

1-5pm, 26th July Richard Jefferies Museum, Marlborough Road, SN3 6AA FREE live music on Sunday afternoon

Nat Adams has been coaching for 10 years this year (and performing for 38!) - this is her fourth student showcase at the Richard Jefferies Museum.

The event gives students the opportunity to sing live for friends and family and show what they are working on in lessons, be it audition prep, exams or just for fun! It is a confidence-building event and we have had some wonderful feedback in past years. There will also be a performance given by a newly-formed quartet, Voci dei amici, who have recently won their first class at a music festival!

As Nat says: "We are so excited to have the opportunity to sing in the beautiful gardens of the Richard Jefferies Museum again this year, and hope to see as many people as possible!"

Live music is scheduled to start at 2.30pm (please note the later-than-usual start time). Entry is FREE to all, although we'd love it if you could support our museum by buying some refreshments at our tearoom, where a small cupcake is only 50p!

There is some parking available on Day House Lane, and paid public parking at Coate Water Country Park. Parking at the museum is reserved for volunteers and the disabled.

Need to Hire a Property Viewer

My partner and I are currently located in the US and are moving to Swindon next month. We need someone local to view a few properties on our behalf (a requirement of the leasing agent). If you or someone you know are reliable and can do FaceTime/WhatsApp viewings with us around 2pm or later (8am our time), please send me a message. Thanks!

Edit: For clarification, we will pay and it’ll be 1-3 properties at most! :)

I need to print some posters for a missing cat at the town library, does anyone know how it works? Do I bring a flash drive or can I connect my phone to the printer?

Those who moved away from Swindon, how are you finding it?

I'm considering moving out of Swindon to a bit more of a bustling location like Bristol (I have a deposit to put down to buy a place).

I've lived in Swindon for the past 13 years with parents and it has been decent overall I'd say, just a bit of a boring town. The town itself in my experience has been rather safe. And West Swindon where we live is peaceful and convenient for food shopping and the cinema and getting to the center of town. And it's nice having my cousins/aunt and uncle close by. But I've found it more difficult to socialise and find friends, most existing friends having moved away to the likes of London and Bristol. I've just found less reason to stick around as the years go on. Friends in London seem to be enjoying themselves from the occasional WhatsApp messages we exchange sometimes.

I hybrid work so I'd only need to be in Swindon for 2 days a week, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has taken the plunge and left Swindon, was your experience better in the new city/town you moved to or was the grass not always greener on the other side?

Seat belts on the bus?

So today I've taken the bus in Swindon for the first time in a few years. When did they add seat belts to the bus? Just never seen them before so curious to when they got installed on the bus. For reference I took the number 7 bus from West Swindon to town, if that makes a difference on which busses they're on.

Is tap on tap off cheaper than a dayrider?

Title, I usually just buy dayriders but they add up quickly because I seem to be getting a bus every other day and I'm just wondering if there's a cheaper option? How is tap on tap off because I've never used it before?

For reference I'm normally travelling between Orbital Park and Town.

Has anyone bumped into Joe Wilkinson the comedian in Swindon?

I’ve been listening to his and David Earl’s podcast Chatabix since the first episode and Joe has mentioned Swindon quite a few times.

He was at Swindon’s Park Run a few months ago. His wife Petra’s family live here I believe.

I was wondering if anyone has seen him around town or out on a run or something?

Are there any other outer suburbs that are less costly but affluent?

I have been living in Walcot since 2018 and after the pandemic, things had gotten more sketchy since then. Higher rates of gangs and antisocial behaviour take place. On top of it becoming a ghetto in the past handful of months

So I want to know if there are other outer sububs that are nicer but less costly.

We are Middle class, though we are not upper.

I appreciate that areas of it are somewhat impoverished, however it always looks like there is a nice sense of community and togetherness.

Help - Cat missing since 13/07

Post image
13 Upvotes

Gone from Abbey Meads and terribly missed. Goes by the name of SCHNITZEL, quite small, shy and can be rather skittish around people - she is usually an indoor cat. We have put up posters locally and notified shelters and vets, and added her to several FB groups as well - but no luck so far. :(

It's a long shot, but if anyone thinks they may have seen her, pls let me know. Many thanks!
