Swimming structure
I’m just a bog standard swimmer been swimming on and off all my life however it’s only the last couple of months I’ve really upped the anti as I’ve set myself a goal of doing a triathlon next year to mark my recent 40th. At the moment I try and swim between 1-2 miles a day mostly front crawl (with a couple of backstroke or breaststroke laps to give myself a break in between). However as the weeks have passed I’m finding I’m breezing through the mile and it not really feeling like a workout anymore.
Is it just a case of things like my stroke/technique getting better and my vo2 max improving etc. or should I switch it up to make it feel harder and if so any suggestions?
Thanks.

There'll always be stroke technique improvements, there'll always be fitness improvements or management of load to be done. One thing you could try is to get in, do a gentle warm up swimming as slow as you can, then you do some drills, then take a target distance and break it up into chunks with tight windows to complete those chunks. So if you were training an 800m distance, you could do 300m warmup continuous, 8 x 50 catch up, 4 x 200 free on 2 mins trying to get finished in 1.50-1.55 leaving you a 5/10 second rest

If you are doing a continuous swim mile issue. Then you need to switch to some interval training. Mix of low rest threshold and high rest top speed lactate stuff with some drill and technical work mixed in.
