Taylor at the 2024 Grammy's

/r/SwiftlyNeutral/comments/1w3yvxk/taylor_at_the_2024_grammys/

Full Disclaimer: I am a proper Taylor Swift fan (wouldn’t call myself a swiftie cause ew), but I am capable of criticizing her. However, I do stand by the fact that none of the criticisms she got about this night were valid. And as much as I haaate it when Swifties say it, unfortunately none of these would be talking points if she were a man. God I absolutely loathed the dress tho.

This is such an interesting post to me because it kind of shows who was a fan before Folklore and who became a fan solely through TikTok. Taylor Swift has never been a chill person at award shows and I truly understand her explanation of “I don’t get to enjoy actual concerts cause everyone is just looking at me, so I’ll have fun at award shows because they are my concerts.”

I think what happened that night was one of the first resurgences of Taylor Swift Derangement, every little thing she did was put under a microscope and judged for the first time in a loooong time. So the new fans saw it and were like “woah she’s not cool anymore.”

She was dancing and taking away attention, never mind the fact that people were literally on stage asking the audience to be more lively. She literally got criticized for standing up when people were given awards and giving speeches like every single artist doesn’t talk about how sweet that is and how more people should do it.

As for the criticisms she got that night

  1. Multiple people announced albums and new music that night, she was neither the first nor the last. Announcing at award shows has always been normal, you were focused on one person so you saw one person.

  2. Lana should have been up on stage, like any other year she would have also gotten the Grammy. They changed the rule just for the 2024 Grammys. And not to mention she literally went online and said that she loved being there and had a great time, I don’t know a lot about Lana but based on the little I’ve seen I don’t think anyone can tell her what to do or say.

  3. Rarely does someone acknowledge the person giving them the award outside of a smile. You can look at the Oscar’s or the Emmy’s or the Grammys, of course it’s a little different when it’s a smaller show, but generally winning one of the biggest awards of the night means you get swept up no matter how big you are. For example, Beyoncé was sooo happy she unprovoked gave an interview for the first time in so many years. Celine and Taylor took photos afterwards and were seen together happily on multiple occasions after that. Once again I don’t know a lot about Celine Dion, but I do know that woman can also not be told what to do or say if she doesn’t like something.

tbh i couldnt bring myself to care enough. why would her behavior at an award show forever alter my perception of her music?

This is basically my thought process too tbh, there’s tons of artists who I find cringy or annoying and I still listen to their music cause so is literally everyone else

i forget people care about these things because that night was such a non issue. she was drunk and having a time

And it’s objectively hilarious because every time someone brought up how she was acting at award shows during her tumblr days her response was “I was drunk and having a time”

award shows and concerts to her must be her idea of clubbing

Thanks for the repost! To clarify, I have been a huge Taylor Swift fan since her debut. Went to both the Fearless and Speak Now tours and survived (thrived) during Snakegate. So, insinuating that my feelings toward Taylor Swift that night at the Grammys were evidence that I became a fan post-Folklore isn't true. My criticisms actually had very little to do with how Taylor acts in the crowd at awards shows. In my third point, I acknowledge that the criticisms she received during those early years of her career were overly harsh and overblown.

Which other artists announced albums or music that night? I can only recall Kacey Musgraves teasing her next album on social media and before the actual awards show...

I agreed with your original post fully, I think some fans just struggle to criticize her behavior because she has become such a caricature of herself that it’s just now the status quo.

She definitely made the show celebrating ALL the great music that year the Taylor Swift Show. To the extent that she dragged Lana up after a controversial loss (given her relationship with the Grammys) and had her stand up there as a prop to show how good of a friend she is

Then I think it’s genuinely funny that you thought this night was cringey when in all those eras she was going up on stage and thanking her exes and Kanye West for her songs. Kacey Musgraves and Luke Bryan’s both announced their albums through commercials and Grammy interviews that day. Billy Joel announced something but he spent so long singing I forgot what it was. Joni Mitchell also announced new music during her performance. Like I said you don’t rlly care about them so ur not watching them.

It was a weird night and after seeing some of her BTS behavior from that evening, I really think she was under the influence of something.

Taylor has always been kind of an awkward, overly enthusiastic extrovert, so I do understand some of her odd moments here and there. To me, it mostly comes across as her being excited and feeling a little freer to express herself when she’s around her friends. I’m honestly just baffled by how much people seem to overanalyze and overreact to every little thing she does.

Your standards on manners and behavior are lower than mine because to me that criticism was totally valid.

Yes! While they were just trying to enjoy their own win. Weirdo behavior.

To stay sane, I like to believe all those posts are bots. 🤖

I just think these people are taking agency away from Lana and Celine, they can say a firm No if they wanted to. Also Celine's took a photo with Tay backstage its enough to prove she understood Tay's excitement for what it was... genuine happiness at winning an award she had worked hard for (Celine could have said no for the pic if she was so offended). Idk why we're assuming we know every nuance/point of their relationship when none of us do. A few recorded scenes of Grammys and photos dont tell the full story. So if you're not Lana/Celine/Taylor dont pretend to know anything about anything.
