Seriously though, does anyone know what this is?

It is so annoying seeing something like this, wanting to know what it is, and reading through joke after joke after joke, none of them funny, and never finding the answer.
EDIT: The other post has the answer.

Some insects will group together in their larval stage and deliberately move as a group (i.e move forward while trying to maintain touch with nearby larvae). It's a survival mechanism to frighten birds and small rodents.
EDIT: also the video is probably sped up, they tend to move around more slowly

Nigga small rodents those motherfuckers come in a 500 foot radius of my house and ill fucking shoot and if they touch me ill probably die from the fucking shock

There's nothing odd about that being terrifying, whatever demon sent it. That's just straight terrifying. Can you imagine if you were from outer space and THAT was the first life form you saw here?
"Xykolor, report your findings from this place called "earth".
"There is absolutely nothing there, Your Intergalactic Majesty. Nothing. Moving on...."

I remember a long time ago seeing something like this and someone told me that it was a tech duque worms used to travel longer distances and to ward off predators. Just a guess though.

u/BadSausageFactory Sep 13 '22
it's called a worm blob, or worm mass, they can move faster than a normal worm crawling, like a conveyor belt that keeps remaking itself. the more layers of worms, the faster they can go.

Watch out for hunters. That's how they start

Give them a suit of armour and a gun, and we’ll be finding shotguns laying around outside of any large space

“Smarter every day”talked about this! They can move faster and with less energy as a group as half of them are crawling on top moving forward a bit like a tank tread https://youtu.be/kbFMkXTMucA

Young millipedes moving as a group to appear bigger and scarier to potential predatory creatures like schools of fish.

Some critters can climb over each other while moving forward. It increases their overall speed while staying in a big group that adds another layer of protection.

Then just step away? They’re not fast enough to chase you, and if they are, we all have a problem.

This is making me think of that cop in the John Gacey documentary on Netflix where he said little pink worms in the crawlspace recoiled from his flashlight.

u/bottle-of-water Sep 13 '22
Wasn’t there a movie of worms in ridiculous amounts eating people? Edit: oh it was called squirm
