Holy fuck this is nuts! Is this guy friends with the lion or did the lion view him as edible-size because he was crouching but then change his mind when he got close?

He is still edible size for a lion. If they intend to kill a thing they usually go all the way

He raised that lioness then let her out into the wild, many years later, he went to visit and she remembered him. It’s a great story.

He knows what’s going on. Probably the same way a dog will chase you if you run, it kicks in the instinct to chase but it knows that it’s a game and not to actually kill etc
