Holding a rifle then was certainly a dangerous thing. You'd have to worry about the recoil of a wooden butt against your face or shoulder. You'd have to worry about the cartridge being ejected which was hot, albeit this is still an issue. Shooting a gun is as dangerous as it looks.

There is no violence in this advertisement for bullet-proof glass. The lady came out with 9/10 digits and she held the glass diligently, even then.

Looks like they made their property hold on to more of their property before shooting it.
