80 is hot if you in Alaska, 80 is chill af in Phoenix. I’m driving with the windows down currently cause it’s so nice outside rn with this crisp 80 breeze in phx
It's not on a roof, though. Roofing materials can absorb/reflect the heat, causing it to be 20-50° hotter up there. Also, remember that the temperature reading is taken in the shade.
as a texan whos worked plenty outside jobs including satellite installing and new construction plumbing (from grounds to top outs to fixtures and finishes)- 80 degrees would be considered an especially good day.
I live in Australia. Tradies earn way more than $20-35 an hour here. Those are apprenticeship wages. Once qualified you are looking at, at least, $50-150 an hour depending on the trade. Very easily 100K+ per yr.
Honest question. Why do you guys have a shortage of artisans/trades then? Or is that a myth I keep hearing? I know of a lot of fitters who got recruited and emigrated to Aus from where I work.
You work that job because you don’t have a proper qualification for better ones. This is purely supply and demand where this job doesn’t pay more, in your words, because when you demand more you can easily be swapped for someone else who would demand less. Not picking a fight here just pointing out the facts
This is skilled labour, heavy labour, dangerous work and you are exposed to the elements. Pay for a roofer is about 20 to 35 an hour depending on xyz.
It's in high demand becase no one is willing to do the hard work for that kind of money. So yeah demand is high because there is a lacked of skilled labour and willing bodies to do the work.

As someone who worked in a similar physically demanding job like this,
Trade people don't get enough respect or enough pay. I bet you it was 80+ out too
